Journal Entry 2 by MieLH from Odense, Fyns Amt Denmark on Tuesday, September 13, 2005
Recieved today as part of a trade from Booknose in USA. The date on the package says, that Booknose sent the books on July 26th, and it have just arrived here in Denmark today! Amazingly slow, huh! But thank you for the trade, Lisa (Aka. Booknose!) The books will go into my TBR-pile c",) "Wuthering heights" is supposed to be a classic, and I can't wait to find out why!

Realizing I'll never get through this because the old english language is too hard for me (regretfully I think I'll have to settle for the danish translation), I've decided to send it to bigcurlyloz in UK in a trade :) I hope it arrives safely soon :)

Journal Entry 5 by bigcurlyloz from Fordham, Cambridgeshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 30, 2007
I was a lovely surprise to find my preconceptions of this book were completely wrong. I didn't make any formal New Year resolutions, but decided I would try to give myself a priority TBR pile of those books that had been registered or in my possession the longest with a range of genres (Sci-Fi, Classics, Chick-Lit, General Fiction, Humour) to choose from and had been putting off taking up this one. I suspect it was the moaning from my schoolmates who had to study it for A-level English that coloured my opinion, but perhaps the few years I now have on them were all that was needed. Anyway, I was surprised how easily I got to grips with the old English and even Joseph's dialect, and found it quite a page turner and not a chore at all! I found it fascinating that a book which features such beastly characters could be so absorbing. The beginning confused me slightly as I had no idea about the plot (other than there were characters called Cathy and Heathcliff - probably due to the Kate Bush song more than anything else!) and I struggled to figure out who the characters at Wuthering Heights at the time of Mr Lockwood's initial visit were. Then I realised that I probably wouldn't find out till the end. I found myself torn between sympathy and horror at the actions of the characters, all of which had their own flaws, and it was quite refreshing to see such marked flaws and the fact they were not necessarily rectified, or if they were that it seemed plausible. Only in such isolation and in that period could I understand how inbred and interlinked the two families on the remote moor were, but the small area of focus with only relatively few characters was brought to life so beautifully, they were all that was needed. I shall probably read this again in the future as I keep thinking about it and these are my initial impressions having finished it about 1 hour ago! This will now be heading to rapturina as part of a Good Fairy "grant my wish" relay.

Journal Entry 6 by rapturina from Yantai, Shandong China on Friday, February 23, 2007
It's here! Reading this book is one of my New Year's resolutions as I once started it many, many years ago and never finished it. And I can't stand not finishing a book, so I'm just going to have to try again. :) Thanks, bigcurlyloz!

Journal Entry 7 by rapturina from Yantai, Shandong China on Saturday, October 13, 2007
I finally got around to reading this book, and I must admit I thought it was quite a drag. After a few pages I already remembered why I never finished it in the first place. :D Like I said though, I can't stand not finishing a book, so finish it I did and it did get better after a while. I didn't have any problems with the language once I get used to it, and after a while you start figuring out who's who, so that's when it gets better. I didn't particularly care for (old) Catherine, I thought she was rather annoying, but when the focus of the story shifted to young Catherine I thought it got a lot more interesting and the ending was pretty touching, I guess. Still, I was very happy when I finally finished the book. :D Sending this to nikkilovesbooks sometime next week, 'cause she won the Smile Day RABCK! ETA: Sent on October 22nd.

Thank you for the book. Such a wonderful classic and very special as it has traveled so very far all over the world. What interesting journal entries, and now it has arrived in remote Australia, too. Thanks so very much.
