"I am Meredith Gentry, P.I., and Princess Merry, heir to the throne of Fairie. Now there are those among my guards who whisper I am more."

Meredith's aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness, is no longer distracted by her usual sadistic hobbies. Her obsession has turned unwaveringly to her niece, hiding among humans in Los Angeles. The queen's mission to get Meredith pregnant and beat her cousin Cel to the crown is taking longer than expected. Even though Meredith spends each night with the queen's immortal guards, no child has come of their decadent pleasures. But something else is happening. Enemies are growing in number every day. Meredith's magic surges through her like never before, transforming her in wild and unpredictable ways. And Meredith is just beginning to learn what incredible power she possesses...

Was as amazing as the the first two, and I'm practically hopping up and down waiting until I get enough money together to order the fourth one!

Being sent off today!

Journal Entry 6 by futurecat from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Friday, June 17, 2005
Arrived safely yesterday along with its two companions. I'm in the middle of packing to go to the BC-AUS convention in Brisbane next week, so I probably won't get a chance to read them until I get back, but I'll try not to hold them up for too long.

The story starts getting a lot more interesting in this book - lots of complex threads of court politics and everyday life (well, as much as anything in the faerie world can be described as "everyday"!) are weaving together - can't wait to read the next book now, just to find out what happens!

I still have a few niggles about the series as a whole, though: there seems to be a lot of padding (and rehashing of material from previous books) - I keep getting the feeling that there's really only enough plot for one good book, but Hamilton has stretched it out into a series for marketing purposes. I may be being unfair by saying that, but I just think that if she'd condensed the same story into a single novel, it would have been a seriously fantastic book. My other niggle is the sex scenes - it's not that I'm being prudish, it's just that they did absolutely nothing for me. I don't know what it was, but they were the most unerotic sex scenes I've ever read (maybe it was just because Merry had so little emotional involvement in most of them, but they felt somehow clinical). The most I got out of them was laughing at the many euphemisms Hamilton manages to come up with for penis - you'd think someone who can throw the f-word around her text so liberally wouldn't be scared of naming a few genitals! ;-)

Anyway, despite those niggles, still a good read (it's just that I think there's a better book struggling to get out).

I'll send them on to the next person very soon.

I came to this series from Hamilton's Anita Blake series. I've got to say, I like this staryline better.

Some of the repitition that others have complained of is, I suspect, text Hamilton included so that readers who jumped in mid-series know what is going on. There is an excerpt from "Seduced by Moonlight" at the end of "A Caress of Twilight", and unfortunately it appears in the first chapter of SbM, so it may look like there is more duplication than there actually is.

Like I said, I'm a Hamilton fan and now have more of her work to claim fandom, This and the other books in this series are recommended!

Contacting next ring member so I can get these in the mail.
