Affinity (A Virago V)
4 journalers for this copy...
I was sent a copy of this book as part of a ray - it is wonderful, so decided to buy a copy!
The original book I read has now been sent to Anne Diamond of BBC Oxford. She interviewed the landlady of my local pub where I'd set up an OBCZ - so thought it was the least I could do! It also has 14 journallers, so well travelled!
If you would like to track the progress of the book click here for the link.

It's just arrived. Thanks a lot molyneux, I'm looking forward to this as I loved Fingersmith, it's next on the list after my current read (not long to go).
Well, I've just finished this book and really enjoyed it. Molyneux, thanks for sending this book to me and, funnily enough, I can now see the next name on the list so I'll PM symphonicca now
Yahoo! Got this in the mail last week, but was out of town, so am registering a bit late--- sorry!! :) Just started it last night, though I didn't get too far into it since I had a long day yesterday--- was snoozing by the third page, but not because of the writing!! :)
Will journal more once i have gotten into it, or when I am done. Thanks for passing it along--- am looking forward to reading it!! :)

Hmm.... A good book, to be sure. I have always liked Sarah Waters' writing style, and the twists and turns she throws into her books--- breathtaking!! She really does set up a story in such a way that you never know her curveballs are coming! I love it!
I guess I am only giving this book a 7 because, perhaps unfairly, I am comparing it to the other books of hers that I have read. While I loved the shock factor, it came quite late, and there was a darkness and heavy-heartedness in this book that was not in the others. I know-- it was a dark and sad setting, and the characters were not very light-hearted--- but even amongst the squalor and depression of her other books (especially 'Fingersmith') there was always a sense of joy, humour, light and loving anticipation. This book was more heavy--- the anticipation felt desperate, the joy was always tentative and hurried, and humour... uhhh... didn't get a lot of that.
Not that I need that all the time, to be sure---- but i felt like her other books had a bit of a balance. Perhaps books sometimes need to be balanced, like food--- the perfect dish always has a balance between sweet, salty, bitter, hot.
All this to say, though, that I did enjoy it, and will continue to be a Waters fan. I can see myself reading her other books a second time, but this one will have to wait a while before i pick it up again. Thanks so much, molyneux, for setting up this ray--- very much appreciated!!
Will be PMing myopicmeringue shortly and will send it off ASAP.
