Chick Lit. This is one of those books, I feel, that is worth sticking with to the end. The start was not so good but things did pick up. It seemed as if it was a 'second wives club' type thing with flashback to high school times but gets much better as the characters develop.

A cross between Steel Magnolias and Ya Ya Sisterhood--neither of which were my favorite movies. I agree that the book got better as the charachters developed. I almost gave up on it very early, especially with what I felt were some very sly and backhanded racist, political and anti-foreigner comments. The charachters got more developed, but never felt very "real" to me.

Journal Entry 7 by SCRAM33 from Wilmington, North Carolina USA on Thursday, June 09, 2005
Received in the mail a while back but due to computer troubles at home I've not be able to journal it. Sorry! I loved this book! I requested this book after reading Queen Bee of Mimosa Branch and loved this one as much (or maybe even a little more). This definitely had a "First Wives" feel but was handled in a much more genteel manner. Also, I loved the mingling of the story flashbacks that gave me a feel for why the women were the way that they were. I was tickled to see that there will be another Red Hat Club book out very soon (if not already out!). Thanks for sharing this fun little book with me!

I wasn't impressed with book. I think it was too much like the movie The First Wives Club. The concept of book was good. Having friends as close to you like family.
