This book lost it's focus for me a bit. She told two stories at once. She told the story of losing her 18 year old brother when she was 15 and she also told the story of finding out that she was a homosexual. I found that both events were so profound, I was a bit overwhelmed by all of it at once. I think she might have done better to have written two books and including a bit of information as an aside about the other event in each book.
