I'm always a bit torn about registering a book that I intend to keep AND that is hard to find elsewhere; I don't mean to tease, but I do want to mention juicy books in case some of you haven't heard of them. This one's been reprinted in paperback - probably in the UK - but doesn't seem to be current anywhere, though libraries may have it. I can't bear to part with my copy; in fact, I hear there's an audiobook version somewhere that I must now try to find! BUT at last I've located a rather battered ex-library copy, rather smudged and oft-repaired but legible, so I can release *that*.
The book? Oh, yes! This is one of the most hilarious and touching cat-books I've ever read (and I've read a lot of 'em). It's by an Englishwoman, and describes the trials that her family endures when they - naively - fall in love with a Siamese kitten. The ways of Siamese have never been told more lovingly, or more humorously. [Caution: portions of this book will require a box of tissues. Other portions will have you laughing out loud and frightening your own cats.]
Brief sample: the new bluepoint Siamese sees her first dog, climbs her owner, and "...stood on my head for extra safety, bawling at him just to try and get her *now*, that was all. It was most discouraging. Blondin [their late pet squirrel] used to do that too, when he was frightened. One old man I know nearly signed the pledge on the spot the night he met me in the lane just after closing time and saw a squirrel yelling defiance at him from the top of my head with his tail bushed out like a flue brush. All the thanks I got, too, for assuring him that it really was a squirrel and not the first sign of d.t.'s was that he made a gate-to-gate tour of the village telling everybody I was potty. What they would say when they heard I went round now with a screaming cat on my head I shuddered to think."

I received this book in the mail from BookCrosser Gory Details in New Hampshire. I plan to relish it, then back it available to other BCers.
This book is an absolute delight. It won the award for Funniest Book I Read This Year. I absolutely love this book and would like nothing better than to give it a permanent home. However, in keeping with the BookCrossing spirit, I am passing it on to BCer Mojosmom in Chicago, Illinois.
Thank you, GoryDetails, for sharing this little gem with other cat lovers. You have been an inspiration to me.

Received this today from palomaranch, it is making the rounds of cat-loving Bookcrossers (if that's not redundant). I will read it and pass it on.
Oh, my, I loved this book! I laughed so hard! Tovey has Siamese cats down pat. I can't count how many times I said, OH yes, I know that move! I'd recognize these critters anywhere.
I may release it at my vet's tomorrow, or hold onto it long enough for my sister (who is owned by 1 Siamese & 5 other cats) to read. She gets to take it only if she swears a blood oath to journal it and pass it on. (She hasn't journalled the last BC book I gave her, so is in for a lecture!).

5210 S. Harper (in Harper Court). In the waiting area.
Don't worry, the cats are fine. Lilith had a bladder infection, which has cleared up, but the vet wanted a urine sample to check for crystals. Naturally, her bladder was empty, so we have to go back tomorrow to try again, so I'll see if the book is still there!
