Francis the cat's second mystery, a bit obvious but a good read. A monster serial killer slaughtering farm cats & outcasts. Francis runs away when his owner's new girlfriend threatens him with the snip.
Don't read this if you want your felines to be all fluffy & cuddly.

Will be a ring to follow that of Felidae:

mastulela
coolboxuk
UrbanSpaceman
Starry-Starry
Auglaise
shylock -safely home, ring complete

On its way to Mastulela

Journal Entry 3 by Mastulela from Nuneaton, Warwickshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, May 18, 2005
Arrived safely this morning, thank you. The reason why Francis looks so disturbing is that he has human eyes!

Journal Entry 4 by Mastulela from Nuneaton, Warwickshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, May 24, 2005
Francis is as cynical and amusing as ever. This book is not as dark as Felidae and, while the ecological message is clearer, the ending is more upbeat. A good read which is very different from the usual mystery/thriller.

Onto Coolboxuk next.

Wow, that was quick! Already received today! Can't wait to read this...

Personally, I think I preferred the first book. Although I still found the outrageous ideas and the cynical wit amusing, I thought that there was just too much "over the top" stuff in this one. But I agree that the message was good and clear, and the ending nice, and overall it's another great read.

On to UrbanSpaceman...

Journal Entry 8 by UrbanSpaceman from Strasbourg, Alsace France on Tuesday, June 14, 2005
This was waiting for me when I got back from a work trip. I'm half way through one other book, then I'll get on it.

Journal Entry 9 by UrbanSpaceman from Strasbourg, Alsace France on Friday, June 17, 2005
An entertaining, if not outstanding read. Francis is an amusing and likeable character.

As a pedantic Urban Spaceman, I have to comment that the satellite tracking capabilities that feature in the story are just not on, but then neither are cat detectives, I guess.

Will send on to Starry-Starry when I get her address.

Journal Entry 10 by Starry-Starry from Llandrindod Wells, Wales United Kingdom on Saturday, June 18, 2005
Received today - thanks! Enjoyed the first one, hope this is as good. I have one book to finish before I can make a start.

18th July 2005
I didn't realise I had already had this a month. To be honest I am having a little bit of difficulty with it. I keep reading the first chapter, getting as far as the fight with the Joan Crawford look alike and then putting it down. I think it is the language, it is slightly more complex than normal and I need to concentrate on it and for some reason I am not in the mood to concentrate that hard at the moment.

So I'm sorry Shylock, but I think I'm going to pass it on to the next in line. Maybe I will be able to pick up my own copy of this and give it another go when I am more in the mood. Thanks for including me in the ring.

PS. I keep showing my own cats the picture of Francis on the front of the book and they refuse to look at him, I think they're as scared as I am :o)

Journal Entry 11 by Auglaise from -- Somewhere in London 🤷‍♀️ , Greater London United Kingdom on Wednesday, August 10, 2005
Received last Friday, but didn't have time to journal.

I enjoyed it, but must admit that the way Francis is befriended by the 'bad guy' type personality in the first one made the assumption that Ambrosius is at least associated with whomever is doing the killings fairly obvious. It felt as though Pirincci had kept almost exactally the same story but changed the characters slightly. But it was a very entertaining read, and thank you for sharing it with me!
