Journal Entry 1 by carlissa from Miami, Florida USA on Thursday, February 17, 2005
12 CDs - 13 hours and 52 min. Narrated by David Birney, Scott Brick, Gabrielle de Cuir, Amanda Karr, Lisa Nemacheck, John Rubinstein, Stefan Rudnicki, and Don Schlossman Publisher's Summary: In the aftermath of his terrible war, Ender Wiggin disappeared, and a powerful voice arose: the Speaker for the Dead, who told the true story of the Bugger War. Now, long years later, a second alien race has been discovered by Portuguese colonists on the planet Lusitania. But again the aliens' ways are strange and frightening...again, humans die. And it is only the Speaker for the Dead, who is also Ender Wiggin the Xenocide, who has the courage to confront the mystery...and the truth. Orson Scott Card infuses this tale with intellect by casting his characters in social, religious, and cultural contexts. This, the author's definitive edition of the sequel to Ender's Game, also includes an original postscript written and recorded by the author himself, Orson Scott Card!.

I received this audiobook today, in great shape, and I'll start it as soon as I finish up the Stephen King audio I'm 3/4's of the way through. Will write more as I get it "read". Thanks for sharing all!

I started this on the ride to work today but when I requested it I didn't realize it was a direct sequel to another book and feel a little lost. I'll keep going but I have a feeling I'm missing out on a lot of important background.

Journal Entry 8 by BarkLessWagMore from Merrimack, New Hampshire USA on Friday, April 22, 2005
I'm going to have to find an unabridged copy of Ender's Game. The further I get into this story the more I need to know what happened to the Bugger's and Ender. Still, I'm finding this story fascinating, if a little confusing. Also, has anyone else found that the sound effects are often startling (as in throwing me right out of the story as well as causing me to jump out of my seat?!). The sound effects are so loud they overwhelm the narrative. Luckily, they soon die off but I found them completely unnecessary.

Journal Entry 11 by mellion108 from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan USA on Saturday, May 21, 2005
Thanks for sending this one my way, and thanks to carlissa for sharing! I got this one earlier in the week and started it right away. I love this series of books, but this is the first audio version of any of them that I have tried. LaurieS, I agree--the music and the effects are sometimes very grating! I find myself turning down the volume because I get a bit freaked out by the noise. But the story is solid, and I'm enjoying this one so far. Ender has just gotten to Lusitania, so the good stuff is about to begin! I only get to listen to audiobooks on my work commute, so it might be another 1-2 weeks before I finish. I'll send this one back home to carlissa as soon as I'm done! Thanks again.

Journal Entry 12 by mellion108 from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan USA on Sunday, June 05, 2005
Thanks, carlissa, for sharing this! I finished it this afternoon, and I really enjoyed it. I've always loved these books, and now this one makes me want to start at the beginning and listen to them all. I really liked that Card (who I think history will prove to be one of America's greatest writers) added his commentary at the end about how he came to write Speaker. I'll be sending this one back home within the next week!
