The Times Book of Church Cats
7 journalers for this copy...
"Continuing his quest for cats that live in unusual places, photographer Richard Surman has turned his attention to cats of more general ecclesiastical persuasion - those that live in abbeys, priories, churches and minsters.
He records an amusing diversity of felines, including frsiky Franciscan cats at Brecon, serene monastic cats at Buckfast Abbey, demure Burmese cats at St Michael's Church, Ledbury, and a rumbustious feline West Ham supporter at West Ham's All Saints."

Arrived in today's mail -- how pretty it is! Elegant sketches of the churches and great photos of the cats.
Reading this gave me a close-up glimpse of English landscapes. How I wish I had a decent atlas so I could see exactly where these churches are located!
Maybe it's just my area of the U.S. -- I've always lived in the South -- but the cats in these pictures look so different from the ones I'm used to. The Siamese that Surman photographed have lighter-colored bodies, and there are so many patched, ticked, and tortoiseshell cats.
All the vignettes were good, but my favorite was about Minou, who reminded the author of Dick Whittington's cat. I'd forgotten about that great childhood tale!
I got a kick out of Tara (aka Cheeky) and the statue of the Bishop with the playful stone cat.
Thanks so much for reviving this bookring! I'm mailing all four of the books to tchouli on Tuesday.

All books that were in this group were sent together in October of 2005. The two other books with this set were journaled, so I am not sure what happened to this book and why it was not journaled in October 2005 with the other two by the person after me.
