I enjoyed this book - thanks for sharing it with me! For some reason, I expected it to be a hard read, but it wasn't too rough. Roy uses fanciful wordplay and dreamlike imagery quite heavily throughout, but it remains very readable and suspenseful enough to keep the plot afloat. Good storytelling (even if the author tends to overwrite on occasion).

Passing it on to Bxer dospescados next.

Thanks! I think I tried this one a few years ago while still in high school but didn't make it very far. My boyfriend and I have both read some of her essays since then for college courses so I'm looking forward to this book now.

I've read this book at least twice before. I loved it! Thank you, dospescados, for sending me this book, as I did not have my own copy.

"The year is 1969. In the state of Kerala, on the southernmost tip of India, fraternal twins Esthappen and Rahel fashion a childhood for themselves in the shade of the wreck that is their family."

I read this book years ago and LOVED it. I'm sending this book along to NancyNova. Enjoy!

I tried to read this several times, but got lost in who was who and why; finally found a list of characters and sparks notes, which helped, although it felt like a HS reading assignment. Sorry - not one of the top 10 books for 2020, although the reviews by others are high and it did win the Booker Prize
