Not bad, but not at all what I was expecting. Think I was expecting something deeper, and found this very simplified.
This is going in the modern classics bookbox.

Taking from Winterson's Book Box. Looking forward to this one as i've hear a lot about it....
Just a quick entry to say that this book is safe and still with me. Ive just fished it out of a box that was in storage, where its been languishing for 2 years! Will make sure it gets passed on as soon as possible :o)

Thank you for the lovely surprise I got in the post this morning :) I've been feeling a bit rotten the past few days and this has cheered me right up. Hope you have a lovely Christmas as well caffcaff Sorry AngelChild :-D! Can I blame the cold medicine on my moment of idiocy?
Whoops, I popped in to journal where the book was going and realised I had forgotten to post my thoughts!
First read of 2008! I was expecting something a bit deeper due to the reputation of the book. However I am usually put off reading translations and this is one of the best translated books I've read. It's a short read and good for anyone wanting to dip a toe into the 'classics/big books' genre.
Simplistic ideas but perhaps we sometimes need them to be stated to understand. The story follows a young shepherd boy who follows his dreams (literally at first) to find treasure in Egypt. Along the way he learns some lessons in life. The book does read as a fable and, in the end, the metaphor of alchemy has trouble sticking with me.
This book is being passed onto a friend who is trying to complete 1001 Books to Read Before you Die.
