Synopsis: A young fisherman is found dead in the nets of his boat off an island in the Pacific Northwest, and from this sudden and mysterious beginning unravels a tale of love and war and the ways men and women struggle. This novel was made into a film starring Ethan Hawke, which I also thoroughly enjoyed. The book moves from present and past and back again, but not in the difficult way that some stories do - you can move easily with the characters and the time changes. Ultimately a story of love lost and found, this book is beautifully written and the images will stay with you after you have put it away.
