I've read Eddings previous series Belgariad. I decided to follow the main characters into this series, Mallorean. I got this book and the previous one, book 1, from a Geocaching cache for books sometime in summer 2004. I don't have the rest of the books of the series and considered badgering Flyinfox to borrow his beloved copies. There was also a new geocacher I knew had copies and he offered to lend them to me, but I haven't heard from him about it. The whole book is spent chasing after Belgarion's son and his kidnapper. Random hints are dropped here and there about a woman who may or may not be on their side. Again, as with book 1, I thought it was uneven and a lot of time is spent meandering rather than something really happening. The back of the book mentions that in this segment of the series there's new lands and new people, but they must have been so well-written that...they're not memorable. The only one I remember is the snake queen and her right-hand man and I think that's probably because she's on the cover's picture. In all the book seemed too stretched out and reminiscent of the Belgariad storyline. Perhaps I'm tiring of reading these types of fantasy books. They always seem so similar to each other... |
