A novel which has been made into a film starring Kathleen Turner, Geena Davis and William Hurt. How does a man addicted to routine - a man who flosses his teeth before love-making - cope with the chaos of everyday life? Macon's attempts to do so are tragically and comically undone.

Cover pic differs to edition in hand which has Geena Davis, William Hurt and Kathleen Turner on the cover.

Received today (February 15th): thank you very much peggysmum, also for the nice postcard :) :) :)

I'm looking forward to reading this one, as I really enjoyed Tylers Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, and I've heard people say that The Accidental Tourist is even better.

But... I owe you an apology... because I still did not manage to post your book out to you. I'm terribly sorry (very busy with my studies at the moment)!!! I make sure I'll post it out to you before Saturday this week.

Hope you are not mad... ?

Best of Everything, and thanks a million for the opportunity for this nice swap.

Annemarie

I finished the book this morning.

What a great read!

Anne Tyler has a captivating way of telling the story (I just couldn’t stop reading), but I also really liked the characters in this book: Macon, Muriel, Alexander, Julian, Rose: I would like to meet them one time.

And… I loved Edward! I’m always very happy if there’s a well painted animal in a story. I could really see him before my eyes.

It is nice to read about how the family acts. With all their typical habits and ways of doing. I’m always very interested in that in real life, and I think Anne Tyler understands the art (is that an English way to put it as well? – In Dutch we say it this way) to create a real family on paper.

I think I would like to see the movie too, one time. I don’t have that, usually, when I’ve finished a book. But with this one (and when I read About a Boy by Nick Hornby) I’m just curious how they did the movie.

This definitely is the best book by Anne Tyler I read. (I also read Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant and If morning ever comes, her debut.

Thank you very much, peggysmum, for this read. I will send it on to someone else who has it on her/his wishlist.
