Journal Entry 1 by Sobergirl from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Thursday, February 03, 2005
From amazon.com: Dogs have always been natural yogis, and their tranquility of mind, ability to be in the moment, and contented outlook are widely considered to be the result of their long and devoted practice of doga. Dogis Benny, Buster, and Cricket practiced in obscurity for years, perfecting their dogic principles. Now at last they reveal the powerful secrets of doga. Many of the movements and positions of doga can inspire and assist humans in their own yoga practice. Doga presents the major asanas or postures, from the Downward-Facing Dog to the relaxing Happy Puppy and restorative Pup's Pose. Each stretch is demonstrated by one of the dogis, with accompanying text to help people adapt positions to their own practice. Also included are breathing techniques such as the hot breath, or pant, and tips on practicing with your own dogi. Anyone who does yoga or owns a dog is sure to find inspiration in these pages. On the path to health and inner harmony, Doga shows the way. Another bargain from the book sale :)

Journal Entry 3 by potok-fan from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Tuesday, March 14, 2006

Potok-dog is glad for a little extra attention, and she thanks Simba for letting this PC book be loaned out temporarily. We'll report back, possibly with photos, after studying the book. UPDATE: Here is a picture of one of P-d's favorite poses: ardha matseyendrasana (seated twist). She is also regularly practices adho mukja svanasana (downward-facing dog), but will not do it for the camera - doga is about responding to the moment with healthy, joyous awareness, not about seeking fame by pleasing the photographer!

Potok-fan rates this book a 7; Potok-dog gives it a 9. Here is a photograph of the first standing pose, tadasana, or Mountain Pose (demonstrated by Potok-dog’s doga-disciple, Iita). Notice how pleased and proud the Dogi is of her pupil!

Journal Entry 5 by potok-fan from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Saturday, May 06, 2006

I should perhaps explain why Potok-dog didn't give the book a full ten points. We must admit that she is not a complete devotee of all orthodox principles of Doga. Often she enjoys curling up in a position not advocated by the book, as it does not allow energy to flow equally to all parts of the body. We call it "the three-legged dog". Still, we thank Simba and Sobergirl for sharing your book with us. As you can see from our earlier journal entries, Potok-dog does regularly practice Doga, and encourages neighbourhood dogs to benefit from it as well.
