Journal Entry 1 by sunflowergalmmb from Lincoln City, Oregon USA on Tuesday, February 01, 2005
Hello and welcome to my first bookring! I purchased this book when it first came out and read it right away. It's been sitting on my shelf ever since, and for some reason it jumped out at me as being the perfect one to send on a journey. As long it comes home safely then I will continue this bookring fun! Since I read this book over a year ago I'm sorry to say I don't remember a lot of particulars. My plan is to read it again once it gets back to me. As I've flipped through it recently I've remembered that it's based all around relationships, both past and present. I remember picturing my hometown football field as I read this book. I could even relate some of the characters to people I went to high school with. :) I'll be journaling again when the book gets back to me someday... Happy reading! ~Molly~ PS - The bookjacket is with me...

Journal Entry 4 by Bestaunt from Chapel Hill, North Carolina USA on Tuesday, April 19, 2005
High school All-American Neely Crenshaw was probably the best quarterback every to play for the Messina Spartans. Fifteen years have gone by since those glory days, and Neely has come home to Messina to bury Coach Eddie Rake, the man who molded the Spartans into an unbeatable football dynasty. Now, as Coach Rake's "boys" sit in the bleachers waiting for the field lights to signal his passing, they replay the old games, relive the old glories, and try to decide once and for all whther they love Eddie Rake- or hate him. For Neely Crenshaw, a man who must finally forgive his coach- and himself- before he can get on with his life, the stakes are especially high." I think these were some of John Grisham's best characters, and the story was compelling and touching. A short, but excellent, read.

Quite different from Grisham's other books. No lawyers or cases. I did enjoy it. I pictured my hometown (Clovis, NM) and our football team. Although our coach was not that rough, at least as far as I know, I didn't play football. Mailing to TJROTH today!

Journal Entry 9 by TJROTH from Port Angeles, Washington USA on Sunday, May 29, 2005
Finished this book during this last week. It is different from his other books but I still enjoyed it. Stellertony asked to be moved to the bottom of the list and I didn't realize that Sundreamy2 had been removed so I will pm BooksandJava to see if they are still interested. I am glad that I haven't sent out postcards yet as it looks like I only need to send 4 at this point. Thanks Molly for doing this.

Journal Entry 12 by BooksAndJava from Knoxville, Tennessee USA on Tuesday, July 12, 2005

Bleachers was my third non-lawyer Grisham book, and it was not really my favorite. I believe it was the main character, Neely Crenshaw, that bothered me. While I enjoyed the manner in which the characters reminisced about the past, both the good and the bad, all Crenshaw seemed concerned with was what had happened to him. I'm still glad I had a chance to read this book and will send it on its way as soon as I confirm the next address. Thanks to sunflowergalmmb!

Bleachers made it home! Yahoo! My first bookring is a success...such a success that I'm debating offering it up again to see if anyone who missed out on the first go-around would like to be included. Thanks to everyone who participated, and to BooksAndJava for the postcard. Bleachers has now visited Oregon, North Carolina, Missouri, New Mexico, Washington and Florida. :)
