This is one of my favourite novels.

It's the story of the two Dashwood sisters, Marianne and Elinor. While Marianne has an idealistic approach to everything, Elinor tries to be more realistic. Both are deeply in love with two different men. And both these men seem to be out of their reach.

Jane Austen understood creating a realistic, wonderful novel.

It was lovely to read this novel again after quite some time. I think I must have read it about ten years ago.

The story of the two different sisters who still love each other dearly, their suitors and lovers and all their aquaintances is very well written. I like the two extremes of Elinor and Marianne, one so very sensible and the other so sensitive. But what a hard world it was. Without money no matter what kind of a person you were you just had to do with what you could get from others, were dependent from them, had to please them even though you didn't like them at all. I'm definitely glad that I don't have to live in their time.

could not get used to the language of the book. unfortunately I always get this problem with classics, then after a while I'll try and give up again... oh well

Elinor and Marianne have to continue their journey to Germany where they'll hopefully find someone with more patience.

10 out of 10

I'm so sorry, I forgot to make a journal entry when I got the book. Please forgive me.

Besides Pride and Prejudice, I liked Sense and Sensiblity best so far. My heart went out to Marianne and even more so to Elinor in their grief.
It is typically for Jane Austen to rather dwell on the reasons for their different actions and moral musings than a constellation that could otherwise be a great comedy. Their mortification and struggels are not laid open to laughter.Austens characters (Elinor, even Marianne, but not Lucy)are too honorable and sometimes too polite to take revenge or to state their true feelings. They are bound by duty, dependence and the moral values of their time. While that sounds rather depressing it is really a beautiful read.

I will send it right on to MPD.

10 out of 10

I finally got to finish this book. I'm sorry it took so long...
As for the book, it is by far my favorite from Jane Austen.
It teaches us all a lesson about sense, and how we must accept other people's reactions to things even if they seem silly or unfeeling to us. People feel differently.

I'll recomend this book to any woman (and some men). :-)
Will send it to the next BC as soon I get her address!

Thank you so much, elhamisabel, for the oportunity to know Jane Austen's works.
