~ The Tenko Club (*Bookring*)
19 journalers for this copy...
Four young women at university swear they'll always be there for each other. Twenty years later, that promise is put to the test. 'I think you can look at a woman, or talk to her, or listen to her, for five minutes or so, and you know how she'd behave in that situation, and once you have figured that out, you know pretty much what she's going to be like in any situation.' They meet at university in the heady days of the 80s: four women with little in common but an eagerness to live life to the full. And over romantic crises, long gossipy nights and too many bottles of wine, they form the Tenko club and swear they'll always be there for each other. Life Membership. Twenty years later, that promise is put to the test.

RELEASE NOTES:
Oops, I thought I'd journalled this when it arrived - but I obviously didn't!
This is a lightweight read, nothing too heavey, and a tad formulaic. I did get annoyed that the author got details about Boston wrong - the Swan Boats and the blue bridge she mentions are not on Boston Common, they are in the Public Gardens, but then errors like that always wind me up!
Will give this to Decembermum when I see her later this week.
Received on Tuesday. I've just finished a book so will start this one today.
Ragtimebabe's entry reminded me that I hadn't done one so I'm putting it in here to keep it in order.
A very enjoyable, quick read. It was easy to identify with the characters as they were the same age as me (although I did find the references to going to "bops" annoying, we went to parties or discos but not bops - unless it is a peculiarly Oxford word).
As others have said, it was predictable but I still enjoyed reading it, I do feel that Tamsin really should have had her baby at home though, she seems the type ;-) Interesting that one of her children was called Flannery as there is also a Flannery in Angy Houswives Eating Bonbons, it's obviously the in name among authors atm.
Either Ragtimebabe or I will send it on its way to the next person in the ring.
(sneaking in on this ring -which I thought i'd joined! but obviulsy hadn't - as I was at Decembermums' house on Thursday just as she finished it! only held it up over the weekend though!)
An enjoyable light read, the characters had lots of elements it was easy to relate to - though they were fairly "stock" in themselves, and the story had a fairly predictable plot line and ending. NOnetheless it was a book I looked forward to picking up (twice -it was very quick!)
I also got drawn in as the girls in the story started at Oxford the same term I started at Cambridge - not that my life has been anything like as eventful as that of some of the characters!
Arrived safely this morning and will be next TBR after my current book.
Thanks for sharing :o)
It's not often that I judge a book on the first page but this one had me throwing the book down in disgust! - good grief, where was the research? The Bruce Springsteen "Born In The USA" tour played the UK in 1985 not 1984!! (I know, I was there!) But, after I'd calmed down, I picked the book back up and throughly enjoyed the journey it took me on.
I found the characters quickly drew me into the story and I particularly liked the use of "flashbacks" throughout to fill in the background information.
Although not a classic, it was a very enjoyable read and, to be honest, the best book I've read so far this year :o) Thanks for sharing Helly77.
UPDATE - 1 May 2005
I have the next receipient's details (Pam99) but unfortunately, due to a very tragic bereavement in our town which has knocked the whole community for six, the book is still with me. I intend to try and get it in the post on either Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

On it's way to Pam99 by 2nd class post. Enjoy!
arrived safely today, looking forward to a bit of light reading so will read and pass on asap!
Finished this a couple of days ago, just waiting for the next recipient's address now and it'll be on its way. Nice light reading, just the thing after a tiring election campaign! I'm not always a huge fan of this type of fiction but this was good, glad I read it. Thanks for sharing Helly!
mailed to ziggythecat, enjoy!
Sorry Pam99 hope I haven't worried you by failing, yet again!, to journal this when it arrived. Only just realised now when I've come to journal it after reading.
Good book, a nice, relaxing read when you don't want anything too hard work.
I still prefer the Reading Group though (which I didn't want to end). I think it was because this was mainly Freddie's story and although the other characters grew during the book, there wasn't quite the range of fully developed characters and scenarios to relate to, as in The Reading Group. Or it could just be me and my experiences not matching so well this time!
A recommended comfort read. Thanks Helly77.
I thought I had journalled this book when I received it, but on looking I haven't, apologies.
I finished it today, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks Helly for inviting me to join the ring, it was the first one I joined and enjoyed the experience. Will email Dodau for her address.
Posted to Dodau on Monday 4th July 2005.
Arrived safely this morning
I've read several of these 'friends for life, big trying challange' books and this one wasn't anything new. It was all a bit preddictable and comfy and hence I didn't enjoy it that much
Angel 69 has asked to be skipped so pming the next person.

Received today and going to the bottom of my tbr pile of 6 bookrings that have arrived in the last few weeks, shpuld be able to read this within the month. Thanks for sharing helly77.
This is the first book I have read by Elizabeth Noble. My copy of The Reading Group will probably take me a few years to get to.
I found this to be a very light read and that many of the things I thought have already been said. I would like to add that I felt that the Noble was telling the story from too many points of view, so she repeated herself or detracted from the story. It made it feel as if there were too many characters in the book. I enjoyed the idea of a group of friends who DO remain friends as I have not had that experience. Glad to see and earth mother in there. I remember Tenko very well, and think I would be Tamsin in camp.
Well, off to LyzzyBee just as soon as I have her address. Mnay thanks for sharing Helly77.

On it's way
Received in the post today - thankyou Billhookbabe for expediting it so it arrived in time for my holiday! Will take it on a brief trip to Spain and back again and should have it off to the next person soon after that.
Update 10/08 - PM'd for Hellie's address today
Read on holiday in Spain (though I promise I won´t leave it here like the other ones!). Some previous readers said it wasn´t as good as The Reading Group but I really liked it - nicely drawn characters and although a bit chick-litty, a cut above the usual "they met at University, now, 20 years later..." books. Good.
Will send it on when I get home - think I´m still awaiting the address.
Update 20/08 PM'd Hellie again for address
Hellie has already read the book and has asked to be skipped. I am PM'ing Beebarf to check the address I have for her is still correct, and will send on to her asap

Posting on to beebarf today. Enjoy!
Sorry I haven't journalled this before now - it arrived, then the following day I was off sick from work, so took this to bed with me (nothing catching, no need to fumigate!) - already started - it's a lightweight, comforting read, will maybe finish this weekend, but currently the cricket is taking all my attention! I've been following England a looooooong time, and this is the best series ever :o)
Now that the cricket is over, I have more time on my hands to read :o)
I found this book quite difficult to finish as I got a bit bored - I found the characters rather stock and the plot very predictable. Having read "The Reading Group" there seemed to be a lot of the same concerns, and an obsession with motherhood ... not everyone is fulfilled by having children (some of us can't/don't want to!) and her childless characters always seem unhappier than those with them... I also think I've been affected by reading "Astonishing Splashes of Colour" this week, which I think handles the issues of growing up without a mother and having/not having children in a far more meaningful way!
Will PM Molyneux for her address
Molyneux has asked to be skipped - have PM'ed prplpec for her address

RELEASE NOTES:
Received yesterday in the mail. TBR next. Thanks for mailing overseas, Beebarf!
An enjoyable, feel-good story. I liked The Reading Group more, but this one was good, too. Thanks, BeeBarf, for the postcard!
I'll mail this on Monday to Pammykn.
Rec'd today, will get to soon. Thanks!
Enjoyed this one more than The Reading Club which seemed to drag for me. This one read swiftly & just what I needed over the busy, rush, rush of holiday season. I much prefer this title to the US (The Friendship Club). Will mail off as soon as I hear back from Wombles. Thanks for sharing this book!
Received this yesterday! Many thanks! Took a while to get here but it arrived safe and secure! Will read asap!
Finished this today, will be pming Libragirl to send it on asap, not the best book I have ever read but ok, some parts were a bit wishy-washy and didn't follow on well, but not a complete waste of time. i really liked Tamsin, she was an interesting character.
Received the book today. This is one book to cross off my Wish list. From the journals I hope that it lives up to my expectations of it.
Enjoyed this book a lot. Not much more to add to the other journals regarding the book other than to say that everyone should have their own "Tenko Club" to support them in times of need. I am happy to say that I am lucky enough to have a friend or two who fall into that category.
Would be interested in reading "The Reading Group" if anyone still has a copy that they can spare (happy to trade).
This book arrived today! Wooohooo! :-) Still have a few books ahead (bookrings and those I already started to read), but will hopefully get to this one in a decent amount of time. In any case, thanks for sharing and sending! :-)
Ooooh, what a nice book for these screwed up weeks of mine! :-) I quite enjoyed this one! :-) It's on the border of credibility (especially that thing about Reagan...) but it has so much warmth about it that I just don't care about the logic! :-) Thank you so much for sharing, Helly77! I'll try to track down the next person on the list!
The book arrived today. Will start reading it in the evening.
There was a lot that I could relate to in this book - being around the same age, making friends at the university that are still my closest friends, losing one of them in a car crash, growing up and sharing your joys and sorrows with good friends. However, there were far too many characters in the book, some of which did not bring anything new to the story. And sometimes the story got stuck, it didn't go anywhere. But overall it was an enjoyable read despite some flaws.
Waiting for tiggsybabes' address.
As Tiggsybabes never replied to my PM's I'm returning the book to Helly77. Will pop in the post office on the way to our monthly BC meetup today.
thanks so much for returning this..I am glad to see it arrive home safe and sound and am glad that it has had such a great journey :)
