Amazon description: From breathtaking stop-action animation to bittersweet modern fairy tales, filmmaker Tim Burton has become known for his unique visual brilliance -- witty and macabre at once. Now he gives birth to a cast of gruesomely sympathetic children -- misunderstood outcasts who struggle to find love and belonging in their cruel, cruel worlds. His lovingly lurid illustrations evoke both the sweetness and the tragedy of these dark yet simple beings -- hopeful, hapless heroes who appeal to the ugly outsider in all of us, and let us laugh at a world we have long left behind (mostly anyway).

A weird little book of poetry (with equally weird illustrations) - which of course is exactly what to expect from Tim Burton.

I'm keeping the book for the present and may place it in my PC shelf but am also thinking about trying a bookring here in Finland when the fall comes.

Update (September 4): I'm setting up that bookring now. Participants so far (updated on October 11):

* ruzena, Hämeenlinna
* sinER, Oulu
* Niksu, Helsinki
* chirel, Tampere
* Aspen72, Turku (viimeiseksi)

The book is less than 2 cm thick and weighs 250 g and will therefore travel nicely by mail. Please note it seems to have spent time in a house with cats or dogs in it, so a very allergic person might have problems.

Update (September 17): no new people seem to be showing up to join the ring for now, so the ring is starting out. I mailed the book to ruzena this morning.

My favorite bedside book since it arrived, but now it has to travel again.
I'll miss Oyster Boy and Mummy Boy and Pin Cushion Queen and Staring Girl...
Thanks a lot, Niora!

Kirja tuli perille 8.10.07 Kiitos!

The book came on Thuesday. Thanks SinER for sending it.

I've already read it, twice actually. First straight after I received it, on a train which was kind of an mistake. I coundn't help making funny noises while reading, it was laughing I guess. You know the feeling when you're laughing and you know you're not suppose to and then you want to laugh even more. Especially with the Glue-Girl, I was sooo hysteric. Oh well, I didn't care less what the others might think. I had fun!

Second time I read it more slowly at home. Where can I buy this book?! I definitely want this in my PC and to get this as a Christmas gift to a friend.

Thanks Niora for sharing the book. I'll send it forward after receiving chirels address. Keep Them Moving #94.

This was a weird and twisted book, but I liked it. I really don't know what else to say. Read the book if you can. (Sammaltassu read it too and will add he's entry later. i'll mail the book to Aspen72 soonish.)

As Chirel wrote, I read this a while ago. A really quick read it was, though that was not the ideal way to read this book - it should be read in small chunks and savored. This was perhaps why I wasn't very impressed with the book, as it gets extremely repetitive if read all at once (I did take a short break exactly for this reason). No matter what, the book would benefit from a little more variation. If I didn't know better, I would get the impression (based on this book only) that Tim Burton's imagination is terribly confined. Still, a good little book.

Toxic Boy was my favorite.

Thank you for this ring book, which arrived today; quite lovely covers :)

Edit: published in 1996

I suppose this book was a bit too weird and twisted for me. I must admit that I didn't like it. Some poems were quite nice, nice rythm and rhyme. In some poems I noticed some kind of metaphores, but somehow, I don't understand, what does Mr.Burton want to say through these poems and pics. It's like he's already lost all hope.

Anyway, maybe it's good to read something you don't like, to know better what you really like. It's the same thing with all things in live, isn't it?

Thanks Niora, I'll post this soon back home.

I gave this book to my cousin as a part of my diabolic scheme to lure her into bookcrossing *insert manic laughter here*. No, seriously, I recalled that she had expressed interest in this Burton book long ago and figured she'd be a good recipient for the book, particularly as she has friends who might also be interested.

So happy trails, Oyster Boy and the rest! I hope there will be journal entries from future readers, but we shall see.
