Journal Entry 1 by boreal from Dunedin, Otago New Zealand on Sunday, January 30, 2005
Bought for tantan's Booker Prize project. Winner of the 1986 Booker Prize. Malcolm, Peter and Charlie and their Soave-sodden wives have one main ambition left in life: to drink Wales dry. But their routine is both shaken and stirred when they are joined by professional Welshman Alun Weaver (CBE) and his wife, Rhiannon. My book has a different cover to the one shown above.

Journal Entry 2 by boreal from Dunedin, Otago New Zealand on Sunday, February 06, 2005
This book was a struggle for me to read, not sure if it was the fact that I have other things on my mind at the moment but it didn't hold my attention. I did enjoy it in patches though, the descriptions of the morning routines were great for example but on the whole it didn't do anything for me. Hopefully everyone else will enjoy it more than me.

Journal Entry 5 by dodau from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire United Kingdom on Thursday, February 17, 2005
Postman handed me this on the way out this morning. So then I had to sit through 3 hours of soft play with three books in my bag and couldn't read them. Torture. Hopefully I'll get to this early next week.

Journal Entry 6 by dodau from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire United Kingdom on Monday, February 21, 2005
Tried several times over the weekend to get into this but every time I couldn't get past the first few pages. So as I've decided life is to short to struggle with books that you don't like I'm going to give up on it.

Journal Entry 8 by Jenatleisure from Chobham, Surrey United Kingdom on Thursday, March 03, 2005
sorry I thought I had registered this book last week. anyway it arrived safely and I took it on the train every day this week. After the earlier comments I was determined to get through it but guess what ... I dont care. I dont like the characters, their wives or their lives and I particularly can't stand the attitude in the book to drink driving. Lucky Jim was great and I hope Amis is remembered for that not this book. I find it hard to believe that it beat The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood Will send on to lady-angliophile in kuwait on next trip to the post office

The book's here, but oh dear, I don't know if I'll like it, after reading the previous entries. Will give it a try, but I'm not optimistic.

This poor book. I'm afraid I have to be guilty of sending it on without even giving it a try. Sorry for holding up the line. Off to tantan, you go!

Received from blurbren - thanks so much! Going on to the bottom of the bookrings pile. It'll be at least a month before I get to it so I hope that's ok. For some reason I think that I probably won't like it anyway... :-)
