This was a profoundly moving book. Too bad a mediocre film was made from it which probably kept some people from reading it. I think David Guterson is a fine writer. I haven't liked much of popular fiction lately, but this book I did like. Some beautiful writing, an interesting story, and a nice twist at the end.
