Women Behind Bars...
Franky Doyle is Wentworth Prison's number one hard case - violent and uncontrollable, a cell wrecker and a bully. She's doing life for armed robbery and murder - and she's spending a lot of it in solitary.
Franky cares for nothing and nobody, not even Karen, whose dark, brooding beauty conjures desires in Franky that can never be returned. Nobody, that is, except her kid brother Garry whom she brought up single-handed. And if misfortune should befall young Gazza, then Franky will tear Wentworth apart - brick by brick.

Finished reading last night. I remember watching a lot of the series when it was on TV in the 1980's and could see the characters as they were described in the book.
Enjoyed it, although it seemed to be "americanized". Knowing that the series was based in an Australian women's prison it seemed strange to have american references, eg, currency (quarters) and malls for shopping centres! Also strange, when the book was published in Great Britain.
Reserved to send off on a bookray.

Opening this up as an International Bookray. The book is lightweight (100-120 grams) so shouldn't cost too much to post.

Received in the mail from aussieangel2... thank you! Will read, journal, and send along asap.
I haven’t seen the TV show in over 20 years, so the book was a fun read. I had forgotten Vera’s nickname and laughed aloud when I read it! Pity they Americanized the book. Reading it made me wish to see the TV show again. Lo and behold, I found that a DVD collection is available. Think I’ll look for it or request it at our local rental shop. I will send the book to Heaven150 today or tomorrow and will journal again when I do so. Again, thank you aussieangel2!
Sent this afternoon via air mail to Heaven150. Enjoy!
Received today from Chryso. Looking forward to reading this. I never saw the TV show.
A quick read. I hadn't seen, or even heard of, the tv series but I could see how this would make an interesting one. Something similar to "Oz" I imagine, but in a woman's prision.
I laughed out loud when I read Vera's nickname, good thing I was home in bed, and not out in public somewhere.
I understand this book is part of series, and I would like to read more, to get a little more background information on the characters, especially Karen, Franky and Bea.
I will be mailing this on to Sarahbear. Thanks aussieangel2 for sharing this book.

Thanks Sarah for organising this bookray :)
Well I quite enjoyed this book. I was surprised actually. I dont remember the TV show as I was never allowed to watch "commercial" television as a child.
AS there are no other readers I will wild release this book soon.

Posting off to bookfairy65. I hope you enjoy this one :)
Received in today's mail, thanks sarahbear!
This was a quick and easy read and I quite enjoyed the story. Although Franky is a character one would normally despise, I was actually feeling quite sorry for her at the end of the book, but then I started thinking about it more. While I realise this is a fictional work, I can't help but compare Franky's character to that of Adeline Yen Mah, the author of 'Chinese Cinderella'; both lived a sad and lonely childhood, however while Adeline grew up to become a successful doctor and author, Franky chose to become a 'victim'.
I will get this of to Binkybuffy ASAP.

The book is just like I remember the show was except the all the American sayings and that is a bit annoying because its an Aussie show. Thats not fair but I guess thats the way it is.
I enjoyed reading it though.
If anyone would like it they can let me know as I'm last on the list.
