From amazon.com:
Take one dead rock & roll star, his Courtney Love-type widow, the mysterious deaths of his former bandmates, and the lost tracks of a comeback album. Stir in Jack Tagger, a middle-aged investigative reporter obsessed with death since his banishment to the obit desk; a fetching young editor with a yen for our hero; and a boss looking for a reason to fire him. Put them in the hands of a master like Carl Hiaasen, who adds his trademark flourishes (who else would use a frozen lizard as a weapon?) to a creaky plot like this one, and the result is a winner. Florida is full of caper writers with journalistic credentials, and plenty of them have a deft hand with quirky characters, but no one in the genre is better than Hiaasen. --Jane Adams
Warner Books paperback 2003, ISBN 0 446 61193 X

Read last month (on the beach in Spain). A really funny crime story. I liked Lucky You better, though.

It is a nice beach read... unfortunately, they weren't any beaches around. The lizard story is just too good... all in all the book wasn't too special. Nice read, but I doubt if it will stay remembered.

I took this home from the meetUp last week. I am very curious, because I like Carl Hiaasen...
I love Carl Hiaasen, did I say that already ;-)
This book was maybe a little less weird than his usual books, the characters a bit more towards normal. But I had a lot of fun with it, I enjoyed reading it a lot. I guess it was CH speaking what he thinks a good newspaper should be like, it should inform people and tell the truth and not just make money. I found the main characters very lovable, Jack Tagger, Emma, Juan and of course the lizard ;-)
My husband would like to read it as well, he's also a Carl Hiassen fan...

KatColorade guaranteed for this book and greatly recommended it .

My first crime novel in English! As it turned out this is less a crime story but rather a humoresque; the writing lives a lot from puns. I didn’t drop dead from laughing, but I suppose this had to do with my poor knowledge of English. Already the title. Where from should I know that basket case means also somebody in a hopeless mental condition?
Nevertheless I enjoyed the story’s slapsticky actions and dialogues. It was thrilling too. I was not so happy with the young, sexy and ambitious woman clinging to that grungy dork in his midlife-crisis. Oh well ... the eternal men’s dreams.
Besides, Hiaasen gave a fabulous description of the publishers' and editors' world. He didn’t exaggerate much in that case. The dictatorship of cash-flow at the expense of critical journalism has become ubiquitous. Ask any reporter.
