Not really what I expected. Really dark and very political, but a nice twist on the story. I definitely do want to read more of Maguire's work.

Hopefully getting this into a bookring

I've sent this on to the next person in the bookray. I loved the story. It's always fun to read twists on classics. I'm especially fond of the activism plot, but I wasn't a huge fan of the poor fate of the misunderstood. A great read nontheless.

I'm not sure what I was expecting from this book but it certainly wasn't what I got. It was an OK book I suppose but I found it to be incedibly tedious throughout, esp at the end which I had to stuggle to get through. Interesting take on sure a classic, and I love how he ends it, but it could have been done with a little less, period. Still grateful that I had the chance to read it! Send to next reader sometime next week!

I can't believe that I didn't journalize this when I received it, I am so sorry. I did put on my profile that it arrived on April 14.

This book was way too political for me. I struggled to get through it but I did want to see how poor Elphaba died. A good lesson in trying to see things from someone elses point of view.

Thanks, luvtink81, for sharing this as a bookring. I am just waiting for an address then it will be on it's way.

Arrived safe and sound.

I think I need to let this digest a bit. There was a lot more to it compared to Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. Interesting perspective.

Sending out this afternoon.

so far, I am really enjoying this book. some passages of which I took special note:

"boys study, girls know,
that's the way that lessons go.
boys learn, girls forget,
that's the way of lessons yet."

============================================================================

"The typical male response to happiness: to predict its demise."

============================================================================

also I found baby's first word to be especially "profound" for my own reasons.

totally engrossing so far.

happy bookcrossing!

some more gems:

"I never use the words humanist or humanitarian, as it seems to me that to be human is to be capable of the most heinous crimes in nature."

=============================================================================

"She wondered, faintly, if it was immoral to raise children in the habit of hope. Was it not, in the end all the harder for them to adjust to the reality of how the world worked?"

I really enjoyed this book. It was fun to experience the story from another perspective. I was thoroughly intrigued. Not a light read but extremely interesting. I'm glad I had the opportunity to read it.

Unfortunately, the book is starting to show signs of wear. Hopefully it will make the rest of the journey.

Auglaise has asked to be skipped so I have contacted the next reader on the list and once I have their address I will be sending this on its way.

Thanks again for sharing your book.

Happy Bookcrossing!!!

Arrived safely today. For some reason I had it in my head that it was coming from Western Australia, so I was beginning to worry about it! The timing's perfect - I just finished my last bookring book this morning! I look foward to starting this one tonight after work :)

Journal Entry 16 by theadi from Lynbrook, Victoria Australia on Saturday, December 10, 2005
Treated myself to a picnic in the park this afternoon - lots of delicious summer fruits and the last few chapters of Wicked.

I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I wanted to. There were some excellent moments scattered throughout the whole story, but I found I only truly got into it when I was treading the more familiar ground towards the end.
Still, a good read, and I'd be interested to read some of Maguire's other books.

As icekween01 mentioned in one of her journal entries, the book is showing definite signs of wear. It's still entirely readable - there are no pages missing - but there's a chunk of about 50 pages coming away from the spine. Looks like it just needs a little glue or double-sided tape. I'll attempt some repairs, then send it on the next reader.

Thanks very much for sharing luvtink81!

Wow I've certainly had this for a while!
It got set aside over the silly season and I forgot I had it... oops!
Anyway, I've fixed it up, and as long as everyone's gentle with it it should last the rest of the trip.
I've just PMed (possibly for a second time - I don't remember!) taniazed for an address, and I'll send it on asap.
Sorry for the delay!

Update: PMs sent to taniazed 25/1/06 and 9/2/06. I will wait one more week before PMing the next person on the list.

Update: Still no response from taniazed, have PMed lunabjp for an address.

Update: This book has been sent via sea mail to lunabjp.

I really enjoyed this vbook. I have read a few of Maguire's book in the past, and I haven't been didappointed yet. A whole different look at the wicked witch in this tale. She was actually my hero instead of someone to fear! Passing on to titihood in Canada tomorrow.

Received today in the post. Look forward to reading it!
Sept. 05 2007 - I actually finished this some time in January. It was an interesting read though I got annoyed with some of the characters. A good, different take on the Wizard of Oz story, a lot darker and definitely more adult. Released into the wild today.
