As this book has constantly been at the top of the reviews I was looking forward to a good read. Unfortunately, I found it very annoying. Am I alone in feeling that the author was trying to demonstrate her superior command of grammar, rather than make a genuinely readable and educational book?
Also, I am not so sure that the author's interpretation of grammatical rules and English language is always correct. No one minds a smart alec if they are smart and entertaining ... unfortunately for me, at least, Lynne Truss is neither.

Having said all that there has been lots of interest for a ring on this book, see what you all make of it.

This was my first ring and I realised very quickly I had made it way too long but ds3233 has come to the rescue with an additional copy so we have divided the list, see below.

Arrived today. I'm looking forward to this one. My pet hate is extraneous apostrophes and I'm glad I'm not the only person with such a peeve!

I loved this book! At last, I have found someone else who is as irritated by incorrect punctuation as I am! I don't claim to punctuate correctly 100% of the time, but it really annoys me when basic errors are made again and again. The examples were amusing (I especially liked the pickled herring merchant) and I found the book followed through well and was an easy read. I don't think it would be much good as an instruction manual for beginners on how to use punctuation; there aren't enough examples for that, in my opinion. However, if you share the author's annoyance with regard to poor punctuation, you'll enjoy this book very much.

Rec'd today - both DH and I will be reading this =)

What a great book! I will definitely be buying a copy for my permanent collection =) I had to laugh about the people that use commas instead of apostrophes ie antique,s etc. I've seen that so often! Reading the book also reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine breaks up with her boyfriend b/c he refused to use an exclamation point lol Anyway, I really enjoyed the historical information and also learning about the differences b/w American and British punctuation.

I am so disappointed! I really was looking forward to reading this book and I could not stand it. I pushed and pushed but I could not get into it. I found the writing bone dry and as much as the idea was interesting, it did not grab me and bring me in. Where I live, the signs are in french so I could not relater to the type of errors the author was seeing everywhere. I will still carry on in my mission to be as vigilant with my punctuation. I know others have read this and adored it. Perhaps I am in the wrong mood to read this? But I am going to pass this along and I hope others enjoy it more then I did.

Thanks so much jenatleisure for sharing!

Keep smilin!

Finished this one a couple of days ago and found it fairly entertaining and a quick read. I didn't love it but found it enjoyable. I am glad I got to see what all the hype was about. Thanks jenatleisure for sharing the book!

Thanks for the opportunity to check this book out!
