FOUND A NEW BOOK SHOP!! In Tahmoor no less.I just went for a browse you know how it is.....ayway here is the blurb from amazon.co.uk

'Oryx and Crake' is a gripping, brilliantly-constructed novel that deserves to take its place as a classic work of dystopian speculative fiction alongside 'Brave New World' and 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'.

Set in the not-too-distant future, Atwood has created a world in which today's technological and political trends have reached a terrifyingly plausible conclusion, but if that sounds too worthy and dull for you, this fast-paced novel is richly endowed with a vein of black humour.

'Oryx and Crake' may be a literary novel, but it is as gripping as the best thrillers as the narrative evolves from a 'whodunnit' into a why and howdunnit. You'll know what I mean when you read it.

Trust me, this novel is one of the most important books of the century. I know it's only 2004, but I'd bet money that this will become a classic and if it doesn't, I'm still right and other people are wrong. Some of the customer reviews on this site have been a little indifferent. Ignore them. The Booker Prize judges knew that this novel was good enough to make the final six. This book should be read by anyone who cares about the future.

Thanks Woosang.

Finished my other copy the other day. Will be made available to BCAUSers.

I am still thinking about the book. It is a disturbing look at what may be the future.

Wow! I just finished reading Oryx and Crake 15 minutes ago. What a book. It was an intriguing, well-told story, and a fascinating and chilling look at what the future could be like. (And I can't stop thinking about the ChickieNobs Nubbins - I have enough trouble stomaching chicken as it is!)

I'd highly recommend this book! Thanks hillcat for organising the ray and for sending it to me!

Now it's off to dolphin-au in this afternoon's mail.

I loved this book. I could hardly put it down once I started it.
Although her vision of the future is quite grim, I do like her way of extrapolating existing trends into the future, and I think in this novel it done brilliantly.
The way corporations are starting to run our word is really scary, and the possible consequences are painted clearly.
Thanks hillcat for organising the bookray.
Let me know what you want to do with the book. I can try to find some interested readers.

Oooh! Another copy! I've just offered my copy as a bookring.

This one might just have to be a wild release, unless BCAUS can drum up some more interest. Or maybe better, I'll wait for the other Atwood bookring to turn up and let them all travel together!

Thanks for the RBACK, Jon!
