Bought this as a Christmas present to myself. Looking forward to reading it.

From the back cover:

For Kivrin, preparing for an on-site study of one of the deadliest eras in humanity's history was as simple as receiving innoculations against the diseases of the 14th century and inventing an alibi for a woman traveling alone. For her instructors in the 21st century, it meant painstaking and careful monitoring of the rendezvous location where Kivrin would be retrieved.

But a crisis strangely linking past and future strands Kivrin in a bygone era as her fellows try desperately to rescue her. In a time of superstition and fear, Kivrin - barely of age herself - finds she has become an unlikely angel of hope during one of history's darkest hours.

I'm in two minds about this one. Overall I really enjoyed it, but found that some parts were very repetitious and unnecessary. I don't fell we need to know every detail of how the characters spent their day. The characters were really well developed and, for the most part, likeable. I especially enjoyed that story set in the past and loved to see how Kivrin lives through her ordeal. I'd like to read more by this author, who I've heard good things about.

I'm going to offer this one up as a ring.

Realy good and unputdownable. I started this yesterday and only stopped because it was midnight. Finished it this morning when I should have been doing housework. Definatly a recommended book.

Received last week but was too wrapped up in funeral details to journal.

I liked the book. I especially liked Colin's reaction to Dunworthy. I read all day yesterday only stopping to go out to dinner. When I got home I stayed up to finish it.

The ending was the only one possible really but I have to admit to having a soft spot for the 1348 contemps.

I really enjoyed the parts about the 14th Century, especially the language, but I found the Oxford stuff a little bit tedious. Thanks all!
