This is in my top 10 favourite book list without question. It is an engrossing and soemtimes gross tale of children.

From the Back Cover
'Like all extraordinary books, The World According to Garp defies synopsis...' wrote the Chicago Sun-Times when Garp was first published in 1978. It is a marvellous, important, permanent novel by a serious artist of remarkable powers...
Garp is a book that captivates all who read it. Peopled with the most extraordinary characters you will ever meet, here is a novel that will make you laugh, make you weep, and, above all, make you think.

Thanks Glitterlover this arrived yesterday.
Phew, glad you've said its a no-rush ring as The Reading Group arrived in the same post & is a fairly hefty tome too.

Really sorry I kept it so long - I struggled with this I have to admit, put it on one side, forgot about it & then came across it lurking in the pile of books by my bed a month(ish)ago, ooops. Got through it this time but I think it was spoilt for me by knowing the film too well :o/
Always, always, always read the book first! its not such a pity if an hour and a half's worth of TV watching isn't so great cos you've read the book, but the other way round... oh well.

I've tried several times, over several weeks to contact Flert but to no avail. So have posted the book out to winterson.

Repeat after me "I will always, always, always check people's address before sending them a book". I posted "Garp" to Winterson & went it hadn't been journalled after a couple of weeks found that I'd sent it to her old address, aaaggghhh! However I sent a letter plus stamps explaining what an idiotic thing I'd done and the (lovely) people at the old address have just returned it today, hurray, hurray, hurray.

My apologies again to Winterson & Glitterlover (I was steeling myself to confess all to Glitterlover if it hadn't come back this week) for the extended delay in this bookring. Hopefully it will have a smoother journey now, phew!

Received today and it's looking fine after its travels. Will get onto it asap and sed it on. Big thanks to Ziggy for sorting stuff out with the address issue :)
