I bought this after reading and enjoying The Lovely Bones
I originally thought it was fiction - only now I have come to read it find that it is an anutobiography! It is the account of how Alice Sebold was herself brutally raped when she was 18 & how she came to terms with it.
It really isnt the type of thing I would have picked up to read if I hadn't read The Lovely Bones first of all - but I am so pleased I did - it is brilliant! It is clearafter reading this how she must have used her personal experience when she was writing the Lovely Bones

Have been waiting to read this book for ages! Picked this up at the Meetup. Looks good!
Someone told me about this book and said it was good. I haven't read Lovely Bones yet but despite this, I enjoyed this book (not sure if that really is the right word really) and was interested in the court case, on how they dealt with a rape victim. The book showed how 'anyone' could be a victim and makes one appreciate life more, if that had't happened. The book showed how her life was completely changed because of it. I was amazed at how naive she was though at the beginning but clearly she was sheltered. It makes me think that girls should be more aware of such things and take keys to scratch their rapists eyes or something to defend themselves with. However, in this case, there wasn't a lot she could do and that was sad as he had a knife. She was lucky to survive but she has become a different person. I am going to read Lovely Bones soon now lol
