From Publishers Weekly
In this hilarious and distinctly British debut novel, 37-year-old Tiffany Trott, a recently dumped London copy writer, takes desperate measures to find Mr. Right, or at least Mr. "ok-looking-bordering-on-the-almost-acceptable." Armed with expensive cosmetics and designer duds, Trott vows to waste no time on golfers, "commitophobes," cross-dressers, or men with the distasteful names Terry, Kevin or Duane. Wolff cleverly chronicles the inevitable disillusionments befalling Trott as she responds to personals ads, attends singles events, signs up at introduction agencies and goes on a long list of blind datesAonly to meet the likes of a lecherous television reporter and a "Seriously Successful" married man. Trott's compulsive list making, large circle of friends and unique ability to commiserate with household appliances set up Wolff's one-liners. Her distinctive humor is consistent, most memorably in Trott's experience as birthing coach to an unmarried friendAshe graciously accepts the assumption that she is a lesbian partner. Quaint English vocabularyA"nosh," "knackered," "beastly," "pernicketiness"Awill add to the amusement for stateside readers. (Aug.)

Wo hoo, I finally read the book! I had real trouble getting into this book: somehow the author's humour didn't seem funny to me, and the plot wasn't terribly interesting either. The book got better as it progressed, although there was way too much random stuff in it, and it isn't very interesting to read about one bad date after another. Towards the end I had grown to like the characters, and the humour seemed funnier too.

Thank you CandyDarling, got the book last Friday. I'll try to start reading it as soon as I've finished another bookring book. I'm really looking forward to reading this because I enjoyed very much the book "Making of Minty Malone" by the same author. Hope this is as good!

I'm sorry to say that this book was a bit of a disappointment for me. Like CandyDarling, I also had some trouble in getting interested in the book and in my opinion it didn't have the wit of the "Minty Malone". Also the ending wasn't the closure I waited it to be and there was this all-too-long and very irrelevant tennis match described in a way too detailed manner.

I will send the book to Germany as soon possible.

Though I enjoyed the story overall, I felt the ending fell very flat considering the Tiffany character bemoans her "single" status throughout the entire book. I thought Kit was wonderful and found myself asking through the entire book as does everyone else, "Why didn't Tiffany marry Kit?"

RELEASE NOTES:

Mailing this book out to SpaceyStacey in NJ. Happy Reading!

Journal Entry 13 by spaceystacey from Bridgeton, New Jersey USA on Saturday, July 1, 2006
Just received in the post today. Took the LONG way here but it is here and I have it read about a 1/4 of the way. It was the only book I had in the car when I went to the pool. Will pm CndBlueRose for her address and mail out to her before the end of JULY!

Finished this one yesterday 7/2/06. Chick lit! I liked it but it did have an annoying phrase in it every so often when the narrator would have Tiffany say something, then irratingly state that she did not say it.

CndBlueRose has asked to be skipped as she is no longer doing bookrings at this time. Pm to next reader is still out, will give to end of the week. Then contact originator of ring for directions.

Mailed back to orginator. Surface mail so might take 4-6 weeks.

Journal Entry 14 by intry from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi / Egentliga Finland Finland on Tuesday, July 11, 2006
Wow! It arrived already. It took less than a week between the US and Finland. Thank you to all the paricipants! I haven't heard anything from Kiala yet. But I'll send it to her if she still is interested in reading it.

Leaving the book in the library.
