The only way to come clean with everyone you've lied to -- and if you've lied to nearly everyone in your life -- is to come clean all at once.
So what did I do?

I threw a party, a New Year's Day party to launch my new life.

And so Jane Taylor comes clean. In fact, the new, wiser and gentler Jane tries to legally adopt the baby she found abandoned in a basket on Christmas Eve, Emma -- who happens to be black. Amid rigorous interviews with the well-packaged caseworker from Social Services, and trying to explain to the rest of the world (namely her mother) how Emma came about, Jane decides that giving Emma a strong cultural heritage is first up on her list of mommy duties. She manages to befriend a woman who invites Jane and Emma to her all-black play group. Never one to walk the straight path, Jane navigates motherhood (and racial identity) with aplomb -- much to the surprise of her friends and family.

Satirical, sassy and sometimes serious, Crossing the Line dares to delve into the unconventional world of familial and found relationships. In The Thin Pink Line, Jane draws a line that changes her life forever; here, she crosses the line -- between singlehood and motherhood, between black and white, between what's expected and what's due.

I agree with Portable-solace that the sequel was better than the original. I actually liked Jane in this book, and in both books I just loved Tolkein. I was plesantly surprised that it focused on more than just the romance part. I liked that it also explored her issues with her mom. The end was a tiny bit predicitable but I sill enjoyed the book quite a bit.
I will drop this in the mail to Cdnbluerose either today or tomorrow. Thanks again SCA2003 for sharing.

Received the books yesterday, and I already started reading The Thin Pink Line. I've been dying to read these books! Thank you so much for organising this ring!

Journal Entry 20 by CandyDarling from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Wednesday, January 25, 2006
Sorry for taking so long in reading this book! I started reading it right after finishing The Thin Pink Line, but couldn't really get into it. I kept reading in little bits, with lots of breaks in between. Finally I took the book with me everywhere I went, and read it in the bus. I was able to finish it in a couple of weeks, and found that as I kept reading it regularly, I had no trouble getting into the book anymore.

I liked Crossing The Line as much as The Thin Pink Line. I'm glad Jane's relationship with her family improved, and that we got to know all the characters a bit better. I knew pretty much from the beginning how the book would end, but fortunately it didn't bother me much.

I'm really glad I had the opportunity to read both books. Thank you SCA2003 for organising the rings! I'll send the books to hetku77 as soon as I receive her address.

Journal Entry 21 by CandyDarling from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Friday, January 27, 2006
I gave both books to myntti today, who will deliver them to hetku77. Thanks for letting me participate in the rings, I appreciate it!

Journal Entry 22 by winghetku77wing from Nokia, Pirkanmaa / Birkaland Finland on Tuesday, October 20, 2009
8.2.2006 I received the book in the local bookcrossing meeting today. Thank you for organizing the ring, SCA2003 and for delivering the both books, myntti!

20.10.2009 I finished the book yesterday. The result of the story is pretty much predictable from the beginning, but the story was entertaining enough to read. I did like Jane a bit more in this book rather than in the first one.
