I bought this trade paperback at the Friends of the Library used bookstore in Rockville, Maryland.

My husband picked it up and started to read it the day after I bought it. "Oh! That's an excellent book!" he said. He also commented that I will like it, but the story is going to make me cry!

From the back of the book:
"This exuberently praised bestseller--one of the year's most admired and enjoyed fiction debuts--tells the story of a man's quest to solve the mystery of his wife's death with the help of the only witness: their dog, Lorelei. Written with a quiet elegance and a profound knowledge of love's hidden places, The Dogs of Babel is a work of astonishing and lasting power--a story of marriage, survival, and devotion that lies too deep for words."

I enjoyed reading this book very much. Just as my husband said I would, I did cry. I liked the mystery of the story and the slow, tender way the author described the professor's relationship with his wife.

An FYI: I would caution animal lovers that some parts of this book may not be to their liking because they do involve pain to dogs.

This book is now in the mail to Apolonia. Enjoy!

Book is here, I have a couple ahead of it but I will get to it ASAP. I will journal again once I've finished. Thank you SqueakyChu.

Sad book, but a good story. From what I heard from others who read the book, many people thought it strange. I think people deal with grief in their own way. For me this is the kind of book that stays on your mind. I would read it again if I ever got caught up. I will be sending it out to Narfinmagic, in the next couple days.

I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. After the first chapter, I admit I was skeptical. The plot of a man trying to solve the mystery of his wife's death by teaching their dog to speak was a bit far fetched for me. The author's writing style does pull you in and I was fascinated by the relationship between Paul and Lexy. I began to feel sorry for Paul and saw him as having a bereavement induced mental breakdown. I'm glad he was able to find closure in the end (don't want to risk a spoiler so thats all I'll say right now). I'm really glad I got to read this book. I will be mailing it to Lpree in the next few days.

This arrived in today's mail. I have some other bookrings ahead of it but will read it as soon as I can. Please check my bookshelf to see where I'm at in my reading. I'm really looking forward to reading this as I've heard of this book from lots of different people.

I finished this a day or two ago. What a sad story! Strange, but an interesting read. I'm glad I read it though I did cringe at the "pain to dogs" portions. This is something to read again when I'm in the proper mood - I think I probably rushed through it a bit since I have several bookrings waiting for me.

Thanks very much to SqueakyChu for starting this ring! I will PM the next person on the list and hope to mail it out this weekend.

This book was waiting for me when I returned from vacation. I was so anxious to begin reading it, I forgot to journal that it had been received. I have now completed reading it and have to say that I throughly enjoyed the story. I like that the story was unusual, and had it's own unique twists and turns. Thank you SqueakyChu for sharing this book.....I will send it on its way as soon I have the next readers address.

What a beautiful book this is! I've been waiting for a quiet time to read it, and I am glad that I did. This is a book to savor, to read through a nice long evening with nothing much else to do -- I'm very glad I didn't have to parse this one out a few pages a night. I should be finished tonight and will send it on later in the week.

***

I did finish this book tonight. What a sad sad story.
