Awesome book. Made me cry in the end. Though I'm not sure what the author was trying to say in the book. The ending, tie-up-loose-ends thing just went right over my head.

But I recommend this book.

I started reading this book and I couldn't put it down! What a magical and touching story. I cried too at the end. I think this will be a book that I'll remember for a long time. It's too bad I have to send it to the next person, because I would like to give it to all my friends to read :-) I'll probably buy a copy when I see it somewhere...

Thanks for raying it mrbrant!

I am a medical student and I've recently spent a bit of time in the Palliative Care hospital here in Aberdeen. While there I found out that the patients can be put in touch with the in-house writer, and they can tell their life story to this writer and this can help them make sense of their lives before they die. After reading "5 People..." I also thought that maybe these patients should also be encourage to read this book as well, as its themes are just so similar. The basic plot is that an elderly gentleman dies and meets five people in heaven who have been involved with his life in some way or another, and I just think that the idea of someone trying to sort out why they lived, and how and who had an influence on their lives was so beautifully told, that this book should be more well known. It certainly made me think that anybody can impact on my life, and I can have an impact on anyone else's life. It is certainly going to make me be more aware in future to try to treat everyone with as much respect and care as possible in every aspect of my life.

I have cloggy's address and I am sending it onto her today. Thanks for sharing this book mrbrant.

Arrived safely this morning. Thanks mrbrant and anthonybairdis for sharing & sending.
Had no idea it was such a thin book. This won't take too long to read at all. Only one ringbook ahead of this one.

Journal Entry 20 by cloggy from -- Somewhere in London 🤷‍♀️ , Greater London United Kingdom on Friday, June 2, 2006
What a touching and charming book. Unlike some of the earlier journallers, I had no high expectations of this book, thought it might be the kind of thing I'd hate, but should be reading. Instead I found it a very warm and kind description of an ordinary man, how his actions affected the people around him and how he came to make sense of his life.

Thanks mrbrant for sharing this book and letting me read a book I would not have picked up in the bookshop.

The book is in the post to TheWhiteLion

Journal Entry 21 by TheWhiteLion from -- Somewhere in London 🤷‍♀️ , Greater London United Kingdom on Monday, June 12, 2006
Received the book 2 days ago. Have a couple of books to read ahead of it, but am looking forward to reading it as soon as I get a chance.

Journal Entry 22 by TheWhiteLion from -- Somewhere in London 🤷‍♀️ , Greater London United Kingdom on Sunday, October 1, 2006
Finally got around to this book which was lying somewhere in the middle of my TBR pile. I enjoyed reading the book and meeting the 5 characters that Eddie meets in heaven. I was especially touched by Eddie's wife, Marguerite. Expected slightly more from the book, but it was a good and enjoyable read nonetheless.

Thanks for letting me take part in this bookring!

Have pm'ed the next person and am waiting for their address details so that I can send the book to them.

Journal Entry 23 by winghetku77wing from Nokia, Pirkanmaa / Birkaland Finland on Wednesday, October 11, 2006
11.10. The book arrived by mail today, thank you TheWhiteLion! I assume that janiemac was skipped because she wasn't reachable by PM?

11.1. I started the book today.

19.1. I finished the book last night. I didn't quite know what to expect from the book, but I have some doubts as I'm not religious at all. I was very positively surprised about the story - it was really good and gave a lot to think about. The start of the story was a bit melancholy, so I was afraid that Eddie (the main character who dies in the beginning of the book) had screwed up his marriage with Marguerite. Luckily it turned out the exact opposite. Despite of some melancholy spirits here and there in the story, it left me with a positive feeling once I had finished it. But of course it would be better to reach the peace with yourself once you're still alive. And indeed an end is always a beginning of something new.

1.2. No reply to pms from janiemac, so the book was mailed to dutchbooky today.

Journal Entry 24 by dutchbooky from Amsterdam, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Saturday, February 3, 2007
Received this book today. Will take a while before I can read it, I have a couple of ring books to finish first. Look forward to reading it! I read 'Tuesdays with Morrie' last year and liked Albom's style! Thanks Hetku77 for sending it and Mrbrant for sharing!!

Journal Entry 25 by dutchbooky from Amsterdam, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Friday, March 9, 2007
What a touching story this was and what a wonderful way to remember an uncle by! I find it an interesting idea that 5 people are waiting for you to help you find out what your life was about. It also makes me realise that we have to try and live our life with more attention and joy.

I will PM Janiemac75, who I think is the Janiemac in the list and see if she is ready for it!

EDIT 18/03/07: No reply yet from Janiemac75. I have PM-ed Mikerbrant. He would like to have the book returned to him. I will wait another week and if there is no reply from Janiemac75, I will send the book back to the US.
