From the back cover: When humans start cutting down trees and digging holes in peaceful Dunlath Valley, the wolves know that something is wrong. They send a messenger to the only human who will listen--Daine, a fourteen-year-old girl with the unpredictable power of wild magic. Daine and her closest companions heed the wolves' cry for help. But the challenge they are about to face in the valley is greater than they can possibly imagine. Book 1: Wild Magic Book 3: Emperor Mage Book 4: Realms of the Gods

As Daine learns more about herself and her wild magic, she has to deal with a situation that could cost the lives of many people and even more animals. Some bits seem a little too easy or convenient but most of the story is well told. I enjoyed seeing Daine's interaction with many different types of animals.

Arrived yesterday and this looks familiar. I wonder if I'd started reading the series but not finished it? Time (and reading) will tell...

What a fun read. Just right after a much heavier one; although I agree with KarenDawn that some of this comes together too easily, the lightness of it and the ease with which Daine accepts her new powers really was just what I needed. And I still think I'd read this one before, too.

Received with the rest of the series as a RABCK from SM! *hugs* I was a HUGE fan of Tamora Pierce when I was younger although I never actually finished reading the Immortals series for some reason. Looking forward to reading this series again!

For the most part, I think I agree with Karen and WoM that parts of this story come together too easily - things happen tha are just a little too convenient. That not withstanding, I love the Immortals series and for a Young Adult book, the story's an absolute winner. Daine had developed better as a character and I fond Tamora Pierce's choice of animals highly amusing!

Journal Entry 12 by PepperVL from Cincinnati, Ohio USA on Monday, January 07, 2008
I agree with everyone else that this seems a little too easy at times, however it was a very fun, enjoyable read. It's well-written and the characters are developed strongly. I enjoyed seeing Daine grow and develop and learn how to make some harder decisions.
