From the book cover:

In the summer of 1952 two people arrive in the pretty seaside hamlet of West Bay, Dorset to start a new life.
Kathy Wilson dreams of turning the derelict Barden House into a home free of the pain she suffered back in London. As the summer stretches before her, she watches her cherished dream take glorious shape - though she grows curious about the lonely wanderer who strolls the beach below her window day and night. His name is Tom Arnold. He also seeks refuge in West Bay, needing a place to hide when the life he knew was brutally destroyed by tragedy. He cannot forget the terrible events that robbed him of his family. Drawn to this aloof loner, Kathy feels a bond forming that will radically change them both. But the shadows and secrets that haunt Tom and Kathy will not easily be dismissed. And as two wounded people try to find the courage to open their hearts to love, the past threatens their fragile new beginning…

Maisie, thanks so much! I am looking forward to reading this and then passing it along.

From Publishers Weekly
Set in 1950s England, this American debut from prolific British author Cox (Jinnie, etc.)-who is the reigning queen of the London Times bestseller lists-revolves around the lives of two lovers brought together by fate. A year after his car plunged off a cliff, killing his wife and two children, Tom Arnold still mourns their deaths and is determined to find the murderer who rammed their car. Leaving his London life behind, he makes a new start in the seaside village of West Bay, where he meets Kathy Wilson, a woman he has seen from afar twice before in London. Kathy is also escaping her London life, as well as a string of unreliable boyfriends; her selfish sister, Samantha; and her obnoxious mother, Irene, who is so unrealistically evil she puts Cruella De Ville to shame. Inevitably, Tom's desire to exorcise his past demons and find his family's murderer stalls his love affair with Kathy, which leads to a mid-book slump. However, an unexpected final twist and a dramatic conclusion make up for the slow-moving plot.

*********

This was a fascinating and intriquing story! I read it in two days, and didn't find it to be slow-moving, nor to slump in the middle, as described above. A very enjoyable book to read!
