I haven't read it yet so im quoting what is said on the back cover :

"If I were thee,' said Goodgulf, 'I would start on thy journey soon.' Frito looked up absently from his rutabaga tea.
'For half a groat you can be me,Goodgulf. I don't remember volunteering for this Ring business.'
'This is not the time for idle banter,' said the Wizard, pulling a rabbit from his battered hat. 'Dildo left days ago and awaits you at Riv' n'dell, as will I. There the fate of the Ring will be decided by all the peoples of Lower Middle Earth.'"

I hate to say this about any book, especially one that someone has taken the trouble and time to send to me, but I couldn't read this. I got about a third of the way in and had to stop. Maybe it was because it was so long ago that I read LOTR but I did watch part of the first movie a few months ago so I am familar with the story. I just didn't find this funny and it was confusing I had to keep reminding myself who was who. It makes me feel a little better that Landy-angophile didn't like it either but I still feel bad that I didn't like it more. It says in the back cover that the writers went onto write National Lampoon. Thanks heavens they got funnier.

Released on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at about 3:00:00 AM BX time (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) at Surface Mail in Fellow Bookcrosser, A Bookray Controlled Releases.

This arrived a few days ago and it hadn't even made it into the house for me to journal its arrival before the kids were deep into it, laughing out loud. And, so far, I've already gotten to explain to the 11 year old what a dildo is!

5/6/5 - The kids got some laughs out of this, although I don't think either of them read the whole thing through cover to cover. A true LOTR fanatic pal of my younger son found it shocking and "just not right." (Ha ha ha!)

We've had it long enough, though. I'll send this along to the next in line today.

Book is safely here. The hot weather didn't permit me to use my computer. Or more properly, the computer refused to remain functional due to the heat. I've gotten a good way into the read. I find it enjoyable but often rather heavy handed.

Journal Entry 12 by ThanksMom from Coolidge, Arizona USA on Tuesday, August 2, 2005
I don't have anything to add to the original comment. It was most fun, but heavy handed.

Mailed off to icekween01 today.

Unfortunately, I just couldn't get into this one. I think it is just what I expected, but for some reason I just couldn't get into the spirit of it. Instead of being hilarious which is what I was expecting, it was simply annoying. You could anticipate most of the jokes which I think took the fun out of it. I'm not sure. Will be sending it back to Kuwait as soon as I hear back from lady-anglophile.

Thanks for sharing your book.
