My mom gave this to me. She read it for her book group and loved it. Am looking forward to this one.

From the back cover:

"A most untraditional love story, this is the celebrated tale of Henry DeTamble, a dashing, adventuresome librarian who involuntarily travels through time, and Clare Abshie, an artist whose life takes a natural sequential course. Henry and Clare's passionate affair endures across a sea of time and captures them in an impossibly romantic trap that tests the strength of fate and basks in the bonds of love."

This book is GREAT - one of the best reads I have had in a long, long time. I can't remember the last time I stayed up till all hours of the night, unable to put a book down, because I just had to know how it all turned out. By the same token, I didn't want it to end.

This is such a beautiful, romantic love story, but also very real. The couple goes through tremendous pain, and yet they KNOW (because he has seen their future) that they will weather all storms and be together forever.

It is almost like a steamy literate romance novel - the characters quote Rilke as foreplay. Oh my!!

I cannot recommend this book enough. It is like a great beach read that you won't feel guilty about reading, because it is so smart. And as soon as I finished it I had to go hug everyone in my family and just love them up in the here and now.

I agree this is a great book, one you don't want to put down. It had me from the first page to the last. I don't know if I'd want to know the future as Henry did, nor endlessly wait like Clare had to either. This would make a wonderful movie although they would have to be very creative with the camera as he appears in the buff every time. Thanks for thinking of me and not just releasing it out into the wild. I'm going to put in under reserved status to keep for our meetup after the holidays.

I've read better time travel books. This book just didn't hold my attention and I found it oddly amusing that it read just as well back to front as it does front to back. It just seems like the author took all her ideas for the plot, wrote them down on index cards and then tossed the whole lot up in the air and then wrote the book down in the order that she picked the cards up. There's never a compelling reason given for why Henry is so fascinated by Clare or why she so obediently decides to wait for him. The only really interesting character is Alba and she doesn't show up until the last third of the book.

Very interesting. Science fiction and gothic romance rolled into one. I dreaded the ending which I knew was inevitable. A good read and quite engrossing.

I apologize, i finnished reading this book in April but forgot to Journal it (i also see now that it's kind of lost, so i'll try to solve that as well).
I actually rather enjoyed this book, which is excelent because so far this year i have read very little.
What truly struck me in this book was the fact that this was no typical sci-fi book, not overly heroic or decadent, it's characters could be our front door neighbours or our co-workers. Also i heard lots of criticism on the level of acceptance from Clare of Henry's condition, but the fact is that we humans have so little certainties in life, and to actually KNOW of something that won't end, that won't fail, is so reassuring that allows us to lay new faith, to endure, and to try again. We cannot compare their relationship to normal standards because it has little to do with normality.
All in all an excellent love-story, and i particularly enjoyed the part about the History of Punk :P
This book was mailed to marko167 on April, let's wait to see if he ever received it, if not i make here a vow to find a new copy and pursue the bookring to it's end. :)

WOW WOW WOW!!! What a book. I loved it. I am amazed how having such a complicated premise the author managed to keep the book easy to read and not at all difficult to follow. The way she built up the suspense was masterful and far from criticizing the lack of Clare's resistance, I found the way that none of the characters were portrayed as not being able the course of things fantastic.

This is an outstanding book, it is a very strong recommmendation from me. Thanks for opening up as a ring.

Will PM OMP now and see whether it should go back to them or whther they want to extend the ring.
