I'm not sure what I was expecting when I picked up The Handmaid's Tale, but I'm sorry to say I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. I wasn't a huge fan of the writing style, or how the story was set up. I will agree that it was a very interesting concept and makes you wonder how far our people on Earth will actually go some day.

I read this once a long time ago, and didn't enjoy it. But I really did when I read it this time. Perhaps the difference is in not "having" to read it - the first time was in Grade 13 Canadian Literature class...Plus I think that experience changes how we look at stories. I just know that I felt "ready" to read it now, and I wasn't disappointed.

Thanks for including me in this bookring! It will be off to SmilingSun by the end of the week.

WOW - can't believe this book was written 20 years ago. It's thought-provoking and eerie. Hard to read, yet hard to put down. Atwood is amazing.

Sending on to lisabb2.

Got this in the mail recently and have just finished reading!!! This was my first Atwood book and I'm not really sure what I expected. It was a very strange idea to think of women actually living like that in the future but who knows what may happen in the future these days right? I guess the whole political world and all the things like sex and power that can go along with it really make you think!!! Sure glad I don't live in that type of world!!!

I had a hard time reading this book. I didn't find myself sympathizing with any of the characters and I thought the whole concept of life becoming this way was horrifying. I don't think I care for Atwood's writing style much. But I finished it today and have PM'd the next person on the bookring list.

Thank you for giving me the chance to read it icekween01.
