This is possibly one of the best books I have ever read. You will be completely absorbed into this book by just the first couple pages. It is the story of Sayuri's life as a Geisha in Japan. The struggles of her life, being sold as a young girl, by her father. Her sister disappearing, the death of her mother and father and almost becoming a slave girl. The book also gives a glimpse into Japanese culture and giving us a better understanding of some unknown customs. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Received today - will get to it asap! Really enjoyed this book! A fascinating look at another culture. Especially interesting as we are in the process of adopting a little boy from China. (I know this is about Japan but it's in the general area!!)

This is an excellent novel that reads like a true life story. It's hard to believe it's fiction written by an American man. I surprised myself by finishing it so quickly, and will now PM for address to send it on.

I have finally finished Memoirs. I really enjoyed it for the most part, although I felt that the main character began to whine towards the end. I would recommend this book to anyone, however, and learned a lot about the life of a geisha. Thanks for the bookring Emb! I should be sending your book home tomorrow or Monday.
