Journal Entry 4 by Sternschnuppe28 from Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz Germany on Thursday, January 06, 2005
Due to a flu right after I had gotten the book and because of preparations for and celebrations of Christmas it took me a little longer to read this book. It is a remarkable memoir of a lost childhood, very honestly, couraged and compassionately written. Hopefully this book helps to create a greater awareness of one of the most dangerous and very specific forms of child abuse, Munchausen by Poxy: "The perpetrator, usually a mother, makes an otherwise healthy child sick in order to seek continued medical care. The mothers who do this commonly have a history of traumatic abuse or neglect suffered in their early life. Since the trauma or neglect was inflicted by her primary caretaker, the perpetrator gets a latent parental need fulfilled from interacting with doctors, who are universally recognized caretakers and authority figures. The doctor rarely finds anything actually wrong with the child, but the mother goes from doctor to doctor, pursuing tests and surgeries. Sometimes the mother fabricates the symptoms, sometimes she causes them, sometimes the child is maimed, sometimes the child gets sick from a combination of drugs and surgeries. Sometimes the child dies." Today I am forwarding "Sickened" to PCSAF.

Well, it's a very shocking story. A very discussed theme here in Portugal, during the last year. I enjoyed it. It's on its way to USA!

This book wasn't quite what I had imagined. I guess I've been tainted by reading Dave Pelzer and too much CourtTV. I did sympathize with Julie, but I guess I've been desensitized, because I didn't feel horror or much shock. Sadness, yes, but the world has jaded me. It was interesting to read the notes at the end of the book, as this is a European edition. The phone numbers really don't do any good here. I kept hoping for more drama in the story, which, of course, would not be included unless it was true, as this is a memoir. I'm surprised it took Julie so long to fully realize herself as an adult, but maybe the trauma was more than it seemed to be. I'll be sending off to the next reader soon.

Oh my! I had to read the part about her "suckers" three times before I could believe I was reading it right and it just went on from there. I think I'm still in shock that a parent could do those things to their child. Flaming-Ice has confirmed that she is Hatemademe (Kuwait), so I will be sending the book out to her on Monday. Oops! sent via Air Mail on August 15th.

This book was never journaled by Flaming-ice/Hatemadame and the ray came to a stand-still. Dodau has offered to send out another copy (obviously with a different BCID) so the ray will start again with a different book going out first off to Oddbloke.
