They are the Enforcers. An elite group of vampires who must serve and protect their secret community -- and uphold the...

LAWS OF THE BLOOD.

In Los Angeles, the Enforcer Selim has been called upon to approve a hunt. Much time has passed since the vampires of the city have last tasted fresh blood, and they are clamoring for the kill. It's Selim's job to keep them under control -- and there are those who resent his authority.

He must not waver or show weakness when he gives the Law -- his life and the life of his mortal love Siri depend on his strength. But a whispered rumor is distracting him, a rumor of betrayal, of a violation of the most sacred of the Laws: Never reveal the truth about your own kind...

8 out of 10

I finished reading The Hunt yesterday. The first book in Susan Sizemore's Laws of the Blood was a decent effort, and it got even better towards the end. I like the author's distinctive style, which is very different (thank god) from the romance writers I've been reading recently. I wonder if her vampire romances are as good...

The Hunt throws the reader right in, and for the first 50 pages I was pretty confused about what was going on. (The glossary at the back of the book proved very helpful.) It felt like I had jumped in in the middle of a story, even though this is the first book. Eventually the picture became clear, and I also grew to care about the characters. My favorite by far was Siri, even though we never learn much about her. It's a pity that the books in the Laws of the Blood series are completely unrelated, I would have loved to read more about Siri, Selim and the other characters in this book.

I loved the dark atmosphere in The Hunt, and I wouldn't mind to read more from this series. Unfortunately the books seem to be out of print.

7 out of 10

This was a really hard book to read and I don't understand why. I loved the characters and the way the vampire society was protrayed. The romance in it was really refreshing since it wasn't for all eternity which is so like other vampire romances. But, I just couldn't ever seem to sit and read it. I would put it down, get something, eat, do laundry, play on my computer (until it broke). So, I am really interested to see what others thought of it.

I have Amber's address and just have to get to the post office with this one.

Thank you Needsun! The book arrived today in rainy Vienna! I can't believe I actually have a bookring here! It doesn't happen very often lately.

I am actually seeing Rianonne tomorrow but I doubt I will read this by then...I will try and get around to it by the end of the month and then pass it on to Rianonne when I see her the next time ;)

I couldn't get into this one :( I have seen so many of the other books in this series and have thought 'wow that looks cool, can't wait to get the ring' but sitting on the tram today I ended up putting the book back in my bag and listening to my ipod.

It didn't capture me at all and the beginning just left me so confused. I couldn't get used to the characters and who was who. Maybe if I had kept going it would have become clearer but I just didn't find the style easy to read.

Anyway I am seeing Rianonne on Monday and will pass the book on to her then. I hope she enjoys it!

I''ve received this book from Amberkatze yesterday but couldn''t make a journal-entry then.

In the meantime I''ve started reading and managed to reach page 43 - but this story doesn''t grab me. It was really hard to concentrate on it because my mind was wandering and this is always a sure sign that I''m not interested ...

As I have another BookRing for joasik, this one will travel along to the Netherlands :)

I had the same feeling - while the story seems interesting and the characters are well planned, I couldn't get into this book. Didn't really care for the ending and how it will go on. No major drama, no funny lines, this book was simply ok - nothing special. Will be sending it back to CandyDarling this week.

A vampire book, yay! I love vampire stories, and am interested to see what this one will be like. I'm not going to read the other journals until I've read the book. Thank you CandyDarling for sending it! :)

7 out of 10

I read the earlier comments and agree with others - for some reason the beginning of the book was confusing, it felt like jumping in at the middle of the story. It was hard to keep track of the characters, I couldn't remember who was vampire and who was human (and who was in between). I didn't really care that much about the characters, but my favorite would probably be Geoff Sterling, the young strig who becomes a hunter at the end.

It was really annoying to find yet another vampire story that had psychic humans - can't we have vampire stories without psychic humans? The vampires seemed a bit wimpy, and what kind of vampires need to get permission before killing humans? And they eat normal food too and drink coffee? Ok, so there are several things I'd like to change about the story. It seems like many authors need to create their own kind of vampires and vampire legends, instead of going with just regular vampire lore.

And the reason the female vampire was risking outing the whole vampire community was for - writer's block? That was the most dissapointing part of the whole story, a really bad joke, like the whole story was written just for laughs and not as a real vampire story.

An ok read, and it had it's moments, but definitely not my favorite vampire story.

Ok... I love vampires, but this was kinda confusing and weird. And the cover is just awful. This wasn't the most terrible vampirebook I've ever read, but definately not one of the best either. But yeah, I guess this was readable.
