I found it neither pro-Keane or pro-McCarthy, which is good. But I've learned to take everything with a grain of salt, as I'm sure there is bias in this book. From the sounds of it, Keane is a stubborn guy that can't be managed, and McCarthy is a push over that tries to be everyone's best friend - not exactly what you need in a football coach. As the book describes at the end, there are so many "what if" scenarios. The most important "what if" is what if Roy Keane was actually playing - could Ireland have won the World Cup? We'll never know. The book also tries to get more personal with the Irish squad. I must admit, I by the time i was about 60% through the book, my favourite players from the tournament hadn't been mentioned and I was beginning to wonder if they were going to be talked about at all - Matt Holland, Robbie Keane, and Ian Harte (only because I play the same position as him, we all know he didn't have a great tournament). Though it really had nothing to do with the McCarthy/Keane feud, it was nice and interesting to ge the background information on the players. Overall, I thought this book was insightful to what happened. Thanks for sending it to me so I could read it! I'm going to finish the Matt Holland book, then try to give away these books as a pair to anyone that will have them. And of course, I can't leave without posting an autographed picture of another Irish player now, can I? :) Leeds uniform though, sorry! Reserved for tyvmdear |
