Cluster is the first book in a 5-book sci fi series from Piers Anthony. It is highly recommended for entertainment. Follow the adventures of Flint, a cave-man in a futuristic universe. The alien species created by Mr. Anthony are very interesting both culturally and anatomically. The commentary on inter-species prejudice is a valuable reflection upon modern society. This is a short book, about 300 pages.

Arrived safely in Texas today! I'm currently reading another Anthony, Isle of Woman, (which is excellent) then this is next.

Good start to a series. At first I found the story a bit disjointed; I wondered how he had gotten from one place to another. All the threads came togehter in the end, of course, and wrapped up nicely if not how I would have expected. In comparison to other Anthony works: Not as light and silly as the Xanth novels and not as serious/dense as Isle of Woman which I just read. A nice balance with intriguing aliens and technology and some mystery and romance mixed in. Thanks for sharing this one!

Piers Anthony's skill is in coming up with variations on a theme where every variation is interesting (quests in Xanth & obstacles for the Wizard's Castle; Incarnations of Immortality; The variations in the spieces in this book). Piers Anthony's shortcoming is that he has too many ideas and tries to force them to fit (Puns in Xanth; overlong Adept series; Astronomy & time regression & mythology in this book; The idea of a species that literally 'makes beautiful music together').

I enjoy his books, but this wasn't one of the better ones. I own Chaining the Lady, the second novel in this series, and will likely read it [If any of you would like it when I finish, feel free to PM me]. If it isn't much better than this one though, I'll likely not search out the last three.

I'll be sending this book on to Portugal sometime this weekend.

When I saw a table of free books in the lobby of my hotel in DC I couldn't resist nabbing a few, avid reader that I am. Then when I finally got around to reading some of them I discovered this site - it's a dream come true, and I can't believe my luck that I happened to be staying in DC during the 2011 Convention!

I've read a few other Piers Anthony books, so when I saw that this was the first in another series of his I decided to give it a try. Hopefully I'll be able to read it within the next few weeks, and I'll add another journal entry when I do.
