Journal Entry 1 by Geegal on Monday, November 22, 2004

Who is Mr Bigfeet? All the five Find_outers know is that he is a thief who seems able to slip in and out of houses without being seen - yet he leaves the most enormous footprints! Once again it is a battle of wits between the young detectives and P.C. Goon. It is also a battle of disguises, but Fatty, of course, is too clever for poor old Goon when it comes to disguise. This is one of Enid Blytin's most humorous 'detective' stories.

Journal Entry 6 by Morgaine77 from Allschwil, Baselland Switzerland on Saturday, January 28, 2006
The book arrived safely with me. I think I've never read any of Enid Blytons books in English! That'll be an experience! ;-) I think the names are all different from the German version... That'll be fun to figure out who's who! Looking forward to read this!

What a very cute book! Childhood memories welling up... :-) I absolutely ADORED the oldfashioned British English! And also the whole ambiance of the book... It's like tea and freshly baked cake: Comforting and reminds you of great times with your grandma... :-) Thanks for sharing this Geegal! I already got Kris's adress, but I'm not sure when I'll make it to the post office...

Journal Entry 10 by linguistkris from Solingen, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Sunday, February 19, 2006
I'm not sure if I actually knew this Mystery (I used to have quite a few tapes with radio plays, also of the Adventure and Seven series, but curiously hardly any of the books), but did I ever enjoy it!!! I think I "solved" the mystery just two or three chapters before the young sleuths did, so I guess I can be quite pleased with myself and still enjoy the clever crafting of the story! I agree with Morgaine77 though: the names are all different! I guess Fatty was Dickie in the German version, and Pip was Flip, and Betty actually Betty (?), but the others seem to elude me. What was the dog again? And Goon (when he wasn't Weg-da)? Aw, such good fun! (Didn't find this much dated at all, btw. Perfectly fine, really.)

Journal Entry 13 by Tiikeri from Friedrichstadt, Schleswig-Holstein Germany on Thursday, March 16, 2006
A really pleasant book! The mystery was pretty easy to solve but I enjoyed the story very much. I think it was the first time that I read an original version by Enid Blyton. Thanks for sharing! Will be sent to Schneefee tomorrow.

Journal Entry 14 by Schneefee from Dortmund, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Saturday, March 25, 2006
I just got it out of my Packstation! Since I'm the last one so far, I don't think anyone would mind me giving the book to elli-pirelli first, since she has a lack of nice and easy literature at the moment.

Journal Entry 15 by Schneefee from Dortmund, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Monday, May 15, 2006
Since Sat, the book is back in Germany. I already started reading this morning while eating my Cornflakes :-) Ha, and I remember: Little Schneefee in grades 3 and 4 (when we were allowed to go to the school-library)... I think, I read EVERY Mystery-book we had in the lib. Well, the different names (German - English) are a bit confusing at first (yep, Kris I'm also thinking about that dog's name!! grmpf), but... you get used to it ;-)

Journal Entry 17 by Schneefee from Dortmund, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Sunday, July 30, 2006
You're right, that's Purzel! Well, the book took my time really long since I was only reading when having my breakfast (uhm, when having TIME for breakfast... ;-)) I really enjoyed it a lot! The 5 Find-Outers should go travelling along with Qantaqa's bookbox.

Journal Entry 19 by jirika from Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Friday, October 05, 2007
Actually I have read the book quite a while ago. I just forgot to make an entry. I found it very funny to read the very same book I had read in German when I was a child, now in the English original. It is a bit confusing with the names, but I loved the book all the same and remebered the dull policeman with glee. Thanks for this read!

Journal Entry 20 by linguistkris from Solingen, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Friday, October 05, 2007
I thought I'd just butt in with an update on the German names; I just reread a few "Geheimnisse um" (adorable! wonderful! brilliant!), so I hope they should all be more or less acurate. -Fatty (Frederick Algernon Trotteville): Dicki, Dietrich Ingbert Kronstein -Larry (Lawrence Daykin): Rolf Tagert -Daisy (Margaret Daykin): Gina Tagert -Pip (Philip Hilton): Flip Hillmann -Bets (Elizabeth Hilton): Betty Hillmann -Buster: Purzel -Mr Goon: Herr Grimm, Wegda (The book is still with jirika, I just felt the need to urge this bit of trivia on you :))
