Dani Shapiro, a young woman from a deeply religious home, became the girlfriend of a famous and flamboyant married attorney-her best friend's stepfather. The moment Lenny Klein entered her life, everything changed: she dropped out of college, began drinking, and neglected her friends and family. But then came a phone call-an accident on a snowy road had left her parents critically injured. Forced to reconsider her life, Shapiro learned to re-enter the world she had left. Telling of a life nearly ruined by the gift of beauty, and then saved through tragedy, Shapiro's memoir is a beautiful account of how a life gone terribly wrong can be rescued through tragedy.
Mailed to scram33 as part of a bookrelay exchange. Hope you enjoy it - this is one of my all time favourite books, which I re-read again recently before putting it on BC :-)
I received this several weeks ago, but somehow missed journalling it. Sorry if this caused concern! I loved this book! I rquested it because I found another book of hers "Family History" so well written. I was interested to see if she could pull this off with non-fiction and she did. This book starts at the beginning of her world crashing down and follows her trying to pick up the pieces. While I could see what she was doing was wrong, I truly ached for her in her crisis. This book was incredibly hard to put down. I've found out that she's written several books before Family History and I plan to try to track those down and read them. Thanks for sharing!
Part of the Baby RABCK. Enjoy!

Received this book with others from a Rabck giveaway that I won! Thanks so much I look foward to reading it then releasing it.
I was excited when I heard the authorwas publishing her biography. I thought, "At last, I get to find out the true story." Instead, I felt like I got a watered down version. I finished the book wanting more. She and "Jess" were supposedly so close, yet she didn't go into any detail of their friendship. She was supposedly so repulsed by "Lenny" when she first met him, but didn't let the reader in on how she came to fall in love with him. Too much style, not enough substance.
A disappointment in all and now ready for a new reader
