Really interesting characters, and good insight into families and familial relationships. Also a good commentary/exploration of popular culture, modernisation and societal norms....
Got this on the mini meetup on the 17th November.
Thank you, rachelhead! Very nice to know you.

Finished it today.
It was very fascinating the way Franzen describes people, their behaviour and what they think and how they act.
Anyway, somehow it wasn't a "pleasure" read. Too many times did I think "I hope I'll finish this soon." Sometimes it was rather a chore.

I'll take it with me to tonight's Meet Up in Bad MArienburg, Westerwald, Germany.
Rec'd from elhamisabel for the 5th Tiara RABCK Sweepstakes. Thanks!
A too-long novel that reminded me a lot (unfortunately!) of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay in that it should have been cut by about two-thirds. I particularly got tired of the references to the "boring" Midwest.
