From Amazon.com:
She tried to warn us: With the publication of Shrub in early 2000, syndicated columnist Molly Ivins detailed George W. Bush’s privileged rise and disastrous reign as governor of Texas in the mid- to late ‘90s. In Bushwhacked, she looks at his first term as president. The picture she paints is unremittingly bleak—unless, of course, you’re a big campaign donor well served by Bush’s prescription for all economic ills (deregulation, tax cuts for those who need them least, and lax enforcement of worker and environmental safety standards). As the only president in U.S. history to slash taxes and go to war simultaneously, Bush wins consistently low marks from Ivins for pursuing "crony capitalism" to its inevitably depressing extremes. While many of the topics covered here have been covered extensively (Enron, the war in Iraq), Ivins does a good job of building on what’s already been written (proving Bush’s close ties to former Enron chief Ken Lay, and laying out the fundamentalist, apocalyptic view of Iraq and the Middle East that drives Bush’s foreign policy). Ivins is particularly good in taking arcane federal regulations and showing how the Bush administration’s lax oversight has hurt ordinary Americans, making their jobs, homes, water, and food less safe. Ivins is no distanced observer. She’s clearly incensed by Bush’s policies, but her reporting is so detailed and writing so witty that even those who come to the book undecided about Bush will likely be outraged by the time they finish it. ----Keith Moerer

Received in mail this weekend from Shh-girl. I am looking forward to plowing into this one. :-)
I finished it (finally!). So sorry for the delay, but tough to keep up over the Holidays. The wealth of information in this book re: Bush's errors and wrongdoing, both financial and political, is astounding. But it is not surprising - if that makes any sense. Thanks to Shh-girl for the ring. I'll be sending this off to jianji this week.
Sent off in mail today to jianji. Enjoy! (well, er...maybe not enjoy. Get incredibly pissed off?)
Received in mail today from MariP. Thank you! It came at a good time. I couldn't have gotten to read it any sooner than now.
Am looking forward to raising my blood pressure! ;-)
(Maybe the book will increase my metabolism!)

Everyone should read this book (I'm realistic. I know this won't happen!). We in the US should not elect our leaders without the facts. Our country is going to pay a huge price for this mistake.
Sending to Piper79. Mysteryfan03 has obtained another copy. My apologies for my slowness!

I wasn't too impressed with this book. Then again, there was much I already knew. I am not sure I enjoyed Ivins writing style, but many others like it. Ivins is just too over the top sometimes. I'll agree Bush is over the top too, but I felt like her book was way too preachy. Chances are, those who read this book, are already doubtful of Bush's capabilities as an good leader already.
I wish many more people would become informed about their leaders. It is frightening that we have re-elected such a person. I encourage others to work locally in politics (especially if you are in a red state like me). We need to elect politicians who will be accountable... (or maybe I'm dreaming).

received in the mail today. i will read it asap.
I didn't make it all the way through this book but the parts I read really rung true. I just couldn't read the whole thing, I am so sick of George W. and everything relating to George W. I will send this book on next week. Thanks for sharing!
Arrived in the mail; one ring ahead of this one but I'll get to it ASAP. Thanks for sharing!
14 August '05 - Well, I'm giving up on this. I think it is a combination of an overload of non-fiction lately, plus how disgusted I am with shrub and his "posse". I like Ivins, but maybe this is too much "preaching to the choir" - I doubt that anyone has signed up for this ring who is an ardent W. supporter, or even an on-the-fence voter. Maybe that is who should read this (the fence people - I can't imagine a hard-core Bush-ite bothering with this). I *did* enjoy the chapter on Rapaport...it is incredibly inspiring.
20 August '05 - Mailed to JDT

Appreciate the chance to read this - probably disturbing book! I do like Molly Ivins inside knowledge, style and humor.
Thanks to everyone before me on this bookring!
Thanks to everyone before me on this bookring!
This book was as disturbing as I expected - information on politics as well as examples of how people are affected. Also recently read Bush's Brain - about Karl Rove - also written by 2 Texas reporters.
But as some of you mentioned before: how do we bridge the widening gap of extremes and blame to better connect/converse/act with each other on a more bi-partisan, middle, respectful ground - for the good of all?
Handing this to my daughter lisaxiii in person today!

As the mother of a new baby (4 weeks old today!), I don't have time to read this right now, so I'm passing it on to the next in line. Thanks for sharing :-)
tbr.am 1/2 way through current book.

I'm a very bad BookCrosser...very bad!
I've had this book a very long time. Unfortunately, I got a bit burned out with lots of things going on at once, and I just dropped the ball as far as BookCrossing is concerned. Now I'm trying to make good.
I love this book, and with the recent loss of Molly Ivins, and with Bush still going strong (ish) it's still as poignant as ever.
One interesting factoid: I know Bob Spiegel of the Edison Wetlands Association, featured in Chapter 6: "Green Rabbits and Yellow Streams" very well, and I had no idea he was featured in this book until I read it.
So, I shall contact the next in line, and the next until I find someone who wants to take this from me, even after this length of time.
UPDATE 4/12/07 : Abbynormal92243 has passed, so I'll go to the next in line, which would be PokPok.
UPDATE 4/13/07 After a very nice "Welcome Back" from PokPok, I will be sending this on to her as soon as I can get to the Post Office.

thank you Foucault for moving this on to me. It is nice to have you back. I will PM the next person so this is ready to mail as soon as I am through. I am currently reading Mario Cuomo's "Why Lincoln Matters: Now More than Ever" which dovetails nicely with this book. It should be read and passed on within a few weeks.
7 stars, or "Good". I am generally tired of political books right now, but Ivins and Dubose do have a "down home" witty way of speaking that makes this book a bit entertaining to read.
Will pass on later this week.

just got this book to be part of the bookring. I think it's been a few years in the making? Oh well. Nice to actually see it even though I'm not interested in reading it. Not that I like George W. now, but that I don't read so much any more.
I found this book in a strange place and it is severely damaged and moldy. I have ordered another copy through Bookmooch.com. I don't know when I received this book since I never journaled it. I must offer an apology for letting everyone down. I moved three times within 4 months last year, and am still recovering; cleaning up messes, lost soldiers, etc.
When I receive the new copy, I will give it this BCID and continue the book ring.
