Description from amazon:

They met at a party. It was hate at first sight. Ruth was far too beautiful, too flamboyant. Not at all Ann's kind of person. Until a chance encounter in the bathroom led to an alliance of souls. Soon they were sharing hankies during the late showing of "Sophie's Choice," wolfing down sundaes sodden with whipped cream, telling truths of marriage, mortality, and love, secure in a kind of intimacy no man could ever know. Only best friends understand devil's food cake for breakfast when nothing else will do. After years of shared secrets, guilty pleasures, family life and divorce, they face a crisis that redefines the meaning of friendship and unconditional love.

I finished this book while traveling on holiday. I will mail it out as soon as I return home next week.

It took me a while to get into the book, but I kept going because I have read other books by this author and I was hopeful that it would be worth it. It was (in my opinion). There were parts of this book that made me laugh out loud; and parts of this book had me flowing tears of sorrow.

To me, this is a story of friendship. I long for friends like these...friends that you can be totally honest with...friends that you can totally trust and rely on. The friends in this book are true, honest, and sincere friends.

I enjoyed reading this book because it was very real to me. I rated it only a 7 because it was a little difficult to get into. It was about 60 pages before I really started to get into this book.

Received this in the mail yesterday. Elizabeth Berg is my favorite author so I can't wait to get to it! I have a couple book rings/rays on the stack in front of it, but will get to it as soon as I can. THANKS!

UPDATE: 01/25/05 - starting this today. WarEagle78 has asked to be skipped as she recently received her own copy of the book.

Journal Entry 9 by Mamikaem from Maryland Heights, Missouri USA on Sunday, January 30, 2005
Call me insensitive to the subject matter, but this is the first Berg book I could not relate to. I just could not get into the characters. In fact they all seemed to get on my nerves. LOL I did enjoy the ending however.

Mailed to doveilibri on 01/31/2005.

A sad, but enjoyable read. I'm really starting to like Berg's writing.

Will be on to the next Book Ray participant (LaughAtlantis, whom I really DID make laugh!) via media mail after April 15, 2005.

Another great read by Elizabeth Berg -- she keeps making me long to read all of her books. What an awesome story on friendship and how true friends remain there for one another even through the storms of life. I appreciate being able to have read this book -- it was not only entertaining but it gave much food for thought as well.

As I was reading the final pages of this book in the bathtub I reflected on my friendships and have decided to send this one to a friend in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada -- whom is not a bookcrosser (yet!) -- I know that she will pass it on when she reads it -- (who knows where this book will end up next???!!)
