9 out of 10

I just re-read this book; I knew I'd kept it because I'd liked it the first time around, but I'd forgotten how wonderful it is.

Going out as a ring:

Kyrissaean (NH, USA; prefers US shipping)
marigoldgirl (KY, USA; no preferences)
DianeO (England; no preferences)
Katayoun (Iran; no preferences)
-aoirghe- (Germany; no preferences)
home to me <------

It's here! It's a short little book--less than 200 pages--so it'll be a quick read. I'll finish my current book today so I can get right to this one!

8 out of 10

I really enjoyed this, but it wasn't at all what I was expecting! Although now that I say that, I don't know quite what I was expecting. The fantasy elements are very subtle for a fantasy novel, and there's a charming sort of formality about the writing. Yet it's still very approachable, and the plot isn't at limited to people behaving in a formal manner! I don't want to say too much that might give the story away, but I always appreciate a story where the main characters aren't invincible. It's so much more interesting to see how they solve their problems that way! And this story does actually have them trying to solve their problems, as opposed to having a convenient solution just appear for them right at the last second. Pretty nifty, that.

And I would like to know if "oolong" really does mean what it says in the book. I bet it does! Mr. Long's name really worked all around.

I would love to have tea with a black dragon sometime!

This is ready to head out to marigoldgirl in KY!

I didn't remember what this book was about at all. Reading it was a wonderful surprise. Hmm...how much can I say without giving the story away? It's fast paced, with a lot of action. I want to grow up to be like Martha MacNamara. :)

My husband found this book in my bag when we were on a loooong car trip over Christmas. He read it aloud to me, and I think he liked it as much as I did.
His favorite quote was from a description of a restaurant in the book: "Vive la mort, vive la guerre, vive la legion etrangere."

I felt sorry for the white cat. And, I don't know if "oolong" means black dragon, but I do know that "lung", maybe pronounced "long", is the word for a chinese dragon.

I'm mailing this on to DianeO today. Enjoy!

Whoops - forgot to journal this when it arrived! Have now read it and although I did enjoy it, it was a strange combination! Partly a feel-good romance but also an edge of the seat adventure!

Hooray! The book arrived safely at my home today. I'm very much looking forward to reading it as I know and love another book by MacAvoy (The Book of Kells). There are some other bookrings to finish first, but I guess I will be able to read this one soon. Thank you, Labmomm, for letting me participate and thank you, katayoun, for sending (which btw was rather quick, I think!).
