From the Inside Flap
With the same incomparable style and warm, inviting voice that have made her beloved by millions of readers far and wide, New York Times bestselling author Fannie Flagg has written an enchanting Christmas story of faith and hope for all ages that is sure to become a classic.
Deep in the southernmost part of Alabama, along the banks of a lazy winding river, lies the sleepy little community known as Lost River, a place that time itself seems to have forgotten. After a startling diagnosis from his doctor, Oswald T. Campbell leaves behind the cold and damp of the oncoming Chicago winter to spend what he believes will be his last Christmas in the warm and welcoming town of Lost River. There he meets the postman who delivers mail by boat, the store owner who nurses a broken heart, the ladies of the Mystic Order of the Royal Polka Dots Secret Society, who do clandestine good works. And he meets a little redbird named Jack, who is at the center of this tale of a magical Christmas when something so amazing happened that those who witnessed it have never forgotten it. Once you experience the wonder, you too will never forget A Redbird Christmas.
This was a terrific book. Fannie Flagg narrates it herself and gives Southern voice to the characters which adds extra oomph! It's sweet and laugh out loud funny in several parts. My 12 year old listened with me in the car and loved it too. This book is done very much in the tradition of Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias. The plot is pure fiction, highly improbable and you must suspend your own voice of reason when it comes to some of the events, but that's part of the fun. I highly recommend it if you're looking for an uplifting read (listen).

I received this book about two weeks ago and forgot to journal it. Sorry about that. I have since listened to it, and WOW, what a cute story. I am definately going to search out more by this author. I loved the way the author really lets you get to know the characters. I thought the ending was great. I will be sending this on to luv2sewjr as soon as I get an address.
luv2sewtjr has asked to be skipped for this ring. As soon as I hear from MattyH I will get the book in the mail.

An really fun time, and a fun book, although as much as I love Fannie Flagg, she doesn't have the vocal flexibility to be a good reader. This is now on its way to rect, notice that I forgot to journal when it arrived (as usual!)
Received in the mail. Looking forward to it!
My 4 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. Fannie Flagg is as wonderful a reader as she is a writer. Thanks for sharing. Will send it along as soon as I get the next address.
